The news of her death came unexpectedly and surprisingly to many. Mrs. Eicher was real well all winter, considering her age. Last summer, she had been quite sick for several weeks, evidently she did not fully recover from the effects. Wednesday she felt well as usual at supper, and after supper, before Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Graber realized the conditions, she passed peacefully into the land of the hereafter as the morning came, into the spiritual existence where unhindered by physical illness, her mind will mingle with and be a part of the beauties and grandeur of that other world as we term it, of which we know so very little at best. Mother Eicher was a friend of both young and old. She reared a large and useful family, one that is a pleasure to meet. Mrs. Barbara Roth-Eicher was born in Wayne County, Ohio, January 5, 1836. In 1846, with her parents, she emigrated to Iowa, locating in Jefferson County, and in the year of 1852, she was united in marriage to Martin Eicher. This young couple then located in Washington County. To this union were born thirteen children; six sons and seven daughters. The husband and a daughter preceded her to the Valley of the Shadow. She leaves six sons, six daughters, fifty-three grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, and two sisters to mourn their loss. The children are: Mrs. Mary Roth of Creston, Mont.; Mart, Dan, and Mrs. Maggie Miller of Milford, Nebraska; Levi, of Hartford, Kansas; Frank of Manson, Iowa; Jacob of Goodland, Kansas; Mrs. Barbara Conrad of Smithville, Ohio ; Mrs. Peter Boshart, William R. Eicher, Mrs. S.P. Wyse, and Mrs. J.W. Graber of this community. With the latter the deceased had made her home the last fourteen years of her life. The surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs. Kate Roth of Pueblo, Colorado; Mart and Emily Roth of Villisca, Iowa; and Jacob, of Red Oak, Iowa. Nearly all of her children visited her while she was sick last summer and all were here to attend the funeral except Mrs. Roth of Montana, Mrs. Miller of Nebraska, and Levi of Kansas. Mrs. Eicher united with the Amish Mennonite church in her youth and remained a faithful member until the end. Funeral services were held at the Sugar Creek church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by Revs. Gerig, Graber, and Gingerich. Internment was made in the Sugar Creek Cemetery by the side of her husband who died twenty-six years ago.

He leaves a widow and 12 children to mourn his departure; but they have reason to believe their loss is his eternal gain. About an hour before his death, at his request, the 20th chapter of Matthew was read to him. He was for some time a deacon of the Amish Mennonite church. The funeral was very largely attended. Services by the brethren S. F. Miller, S. Gerig and John Gunden from John 11:25.
