Donna, it has been 5 years or so since I have been in the Washington Library (I live in Texas), but I was so impressed at what they had available. It is not nearly as comprehensive as Iowa City, of coarse, but they have so much to offer. I wished I had left more time to spend there. If you go, be sure to look at their newspaper obituaries, some of which go way back. They were in scrapbooks when I was there.
I'm sorry....my fingers are faster than my brain this morning. That should have been Cedar and LINN counties. Thank you. Donna
I've been trying to research my maiden name, CRAY, without much success. I know that they lived in Cedar and Inn counties but have also found this name in Washington county. I don't believe there are any longer Cray's in this area. I have found 3-4 graves in the Wellman cemetery but have no idea who they might be. A very nice lady from this list, months ago said there was a John Cray who lived in Wellman years ago. Unfortunately, my son-in-law lost this information for me so I'm not sure where it was that he lived. I've never visisted the genealogy section of the Washington library. Could someone tell me if it would be worth the time to do this? Thank you. Donna Related names: BEASMORE / PANCRATZ / WATSON / KINNEY / HENRY / HICKS

I have this book called "The Kalona Heritage; Amish and Mennonite Culture, Religion, Recipes, Quilts, and Country Scenes" Lots of info about Iowa's Amishland, Mennonites, Anabaptist-Mennonite History; Amish and Mennonite Communities; Amish-Mennonite Cooking; Breads, Quilting, Recipes, and a Kalona Area Map, etc. Does anyone have a possible connection to the Amish/Mennonites in Washington Co, IA? Please write me personally, Rose T.
I wonder what their origin is. I have information on Milton Hoskins who was born 1840 Washington Co., IA and had 1 son Richard and 2 daughters. Richard married my great Aunt Minnie Elfleeta Stribling and they had 4 daughters who were my mother's first cousins. And as far as I can determine, Moses Hoskins, Milton's father had one son, Milton and 2 daughters. But I know nothing of Moses Hoskins. Perhaps he had brothers who lived in Washington Co., IA and your Chalmers Hoskins was a descendent. Perhaps someone else on the list has more information. I did get one response which was very helpful. pat ----- Begin Included Message ----- From [email protected] Sun Jan 7 01:29:36 2001 Resent-Date: Sun, 7 Jan 2001 00:29:53 -0800 X-Original-Sender: [email protected] Sun Jan 7 00:29:52 2001 From: "Linda Carris Boswell" <[email protected]> Old-To: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [wash] [IAWASHIN-L] Re: IAWASHIN-D Digest V01 #1 Date: Sun, 7 Jan 2001 02:35:45 -0600 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2919.6600 Resent-Message-ID: <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Resent-From: [email protected] X-Mailing-List: <[email protected]> archive/latest/19 X-Loop: [email protected] Resent-Sender: [email protected] Hoskins was still in Jefferson Co.
