    1. [wash] CURRENT, J.B.
    2. I was given this from the Iowa Cemetery database: Tombstone Records of Story County, Iowa(Inclucive) Page: 64 Name: J. B. Current Birth Date: 22 Aug 1816 Death Date: 09 Jan 1890 Cemetery: Ontario Town: Washington This is confusing to me, because the only Washington I can find is in the county of Washington, IA. Can anyone enlighten me? Where is Ontario Cemetery? And, can you point me in the right direction for finding more info on J.B. Current? (census records? obituary? will? local directory?) I'm desparate! Need to find out if he is our g-g-grandfather! - Marilyn Current of Michigan

    1. [wash] Good news
    2. Norma F. Jennings
    3. There is good news to report on the new Ancestry/Rootsweb Message Boards. Many people were concerned about having to sign in with a password to post on the board. They have now changed it so you can post to the board without signing in or having a password. However, if you change ISP's or for some reason need to change your e-mail address on posts you have made previously, you will need to sign in with a username and password (of your choice, of course,) to make a universal address change on all previous posts you have made. This is a feature that could not be done previously or you needed to post a new message with the correct address and ask that the previous one be deleted. The programmers have made a great deal of progress this past week and fixed many bugs and responded to the public's requests and made some changes in the way we can use those boards. There is now a drop down menu that lets us select the category we want to post a message to. You can now post Bible records, biographies, obituaries, wills, etc. from the same page and by selecting the category in which it belongs. It is important to use this drop down menu when you are posting so the search engine will locate only one category (or classification) without having to pull them up all at once. They are still working on this search engine to get it to work easily and just select the category requested so please be patient if you don't get immediate results on it. Some people objected to the board only showing 25 messages at a time. You can change that if you see a 25 in the URL in your location box to whatever number you like. I have tried this with up to 600 messages displayed at once but I don't recommend pulling up more than 200 at a time as it takes so much long0er to load. Easier and faster to set it at a lower number and keep clicking on the next button. It appeared to me that you needed to be signed in to change that number, but I could be wrong on that. I usually sign in in administrative mode to make any needed changes so I may be seeing something different from what you see. We are limited somewhat in what we can do at this point, but as a user, you will be able to do some things yourself like making a universal e-mail address change that would have required Rootsweb staff or board administrator assistance to do. It will take awhile to get used to the new system but it will have some advantages when it is purring along as it should. I will try to keep you updated and will answer any questions you have, if I know the answer. Norma

    3. Deb, I really don't enter many posts on the boards? Just did a few to try the system out and to let others know the boards were working. Other people do most of the obituary postings. Norma

    2. Norma, Would it be possible for you to put the surnames in Caps when you type for the boards? It makes it sooooo easy to read through the long ones to see if there is a match. 3. I had the same experience at the Schrock Eureka Cemetery when I found the Snider family stones were new and/or restored. The cemetery really looked nice. Don't know who did it but it was certainly much appreciated because there were no descendants of the lady whose stone was quite impressive. But she had donated the old pipe organ to the Methodist Church when it was built so she certainly deserved a respectable stone. Norma Jennings

    1. [wash] Early Catholic churches in Wadhington County
    2. Hello, I have a questions and I am not sure how to find the answer. I am looking for early Catholi parishes that would have been in Washington Co particularly near Ainsworth or Washinton in the time of 1864. I am looking for baptism records of a DAUB family who lived in the area. I have checked with Dubuque and Davenport Diocese and they do no thave these early records. They said that the records would be with the nearest active parish today. Not being from the area, I do not know what the parish was that this family attended at the time but the diocese migh t be able to help if I knew of parishes in the area at the time. If anyone knows where or has this early church information I would greatly appreciate anything. Jene Daub

    3. Pat When I was in Wellman 2 yrs ago the Historical Society still had several copies. You may be able to find the address thru the yellow pages or simply address it to the Wellman Historical Society in Wellman and they should get a letter. Let me know if you can't get a copy as I have one and will do some look-ups for you if you have page numbers.
