    2. The death records of Washington County, Iowa, from 1881 to about 1930 have been filmed by the LDS church and are available for rent through their branch family history centers, for a nominal fee. The library at Washington, Iowa has indexed them all and the printout is available in their genealogy department. Iowa also went to a statewide registration of deaths about 1910 ? And they are available from the department of vital statistics, in Des Moines. Their website gives the years covered and the fee for copies. Do a search for Iowa and Vital Statistics and you will find the website. By the way, what surname are you researching? I may have it in my files. Marlene

    2. Bill Houdek
    3. The only Washington Co Iowa surname is Houdek. When they cut the stone for ggpa, they spelled it Houddk. We are in the area starting abt 1870 to the mid 1900's. In addition to Wenzil, are Mary, Rose, Peter Richard, John Skipton. How they got there or what they did is a complete mystery. My gfather, Richard m. ran a restaurant in Muscatine, button factory in McGregor, made holsters for the Army and then, moved family to Galesburg, Illinois where he founded and ran the food service for Knox College. Got lots of holes in this and great information going foreword. Happy to share.
