Posted on: Warren County, Ia Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ia/Warren/11344 Surname: COLES ------------------------- I don't have your particular record. However, I'm pretty sure that most of the early Coles in Lacona and Liberty Center were descendants of Solomon Coles and wife Elizabeth who lived in Oxford Twsp. Guernsey Co. Ohio. Solomon's grandfather has been reported as Daniel Coles who married Dinah Boone, first cousin of Daniel Boone. Some of Solomon's children I believe went on to Warren Co. My ggg grandparents were James C. Coles and Mary Pierson who came to Liberty Center from Guernsey Cy. Solomon Coles himself obviously came to Warren Co., but his wife Elizabeth had died in Guernsey Co. Ohio. Solomon Coles had at least the following children: Isaac, Ester, Jesse, John, James C., Thomas, Mary, Benjamin, Sarah, and Elizabeth Ann. Some of them went with the Hall family from Guernsey to Warren Co. Then my great great grandparents, James and Mary Coles, came to Liberty Center. Their children that survived childhood were William Burr Coles, Levi Coles, Lydia Jane Coles, Benjamin Pierson Coles, died at 21 years old (1840-1862), Barton Coles, died at 21 years old (1841-1863) Elizabeth Ellen, Phebe Ann, Aaron, died at 26 years old (1845-1872). Mary Pierson's father was Benjamin Pierson and his wife was named Jane. I'm not sure how it was concluded that a certain Jane Burr then was her mother. Can anyone help? And that her father was William Burr. If true, it explains why she would name her first son William Burr Coles. Then another son Benjamin Pierson Coles for her father's name. Some of the Coles were buried at the Christian Neck Cemetery. I'm hoping to go to Iowa this fall. I may be also receiving more information so will check back with you. It seems as if any of Solomon Cole's grandchildren, including some who are not listed here, would have been of the appropriate age to be a father of Eliza L.
