Dear Warren Co. List members, I'm stunned!!!!! Warren County, Iowa will not release a record of the 15 Apr 1875 marriage of Sylvester and Martha E. McConnell Willis, even though the event took place over 125 years ago. I was told, in a less than charming manner, that these records can reviewed and possibly released to direct line descendants only. So as a sponse, I don't qualify!!!!!!!! They won't tell me if they even have the record. Evidently, there is no guarantee. But they will be delighted to tell me if they have the record if my husband will fill out the form, sign it, promise his first born and send $10.00. Unbelieveable. Just what malice a person could perform with such a record, I'm sure I don't know!!!!!!! I presume that also means probate records are off limits as well. How tacky!!!!!! I have never run into a situation like this. I'm not sure I want to send $10.00 for a "maybe". I think it's highway robbery to charge a research fee for a $.25 uncertified xerox copy. What research? I provided the date, place and participants. All I wanted was a confirming marriage document for my children's ggg grandparents. Is this some kind of crime? Is this kind of discrimination statewide or just Warren County? Have you had this happen in your research? Can anyone explain this? The form the Warren County Recorder sent for us to fill out and return was for the State of Iowa. The State doesn't have records that old. What is the problem in Warren County? My husband's Willis family were pioneers in Warren County, Iowa specifically White Breast Township. If the County Recorder is in error, you need to know what is happening to the visitors of the county. For now, I will do my research in Missouri where I am warmly welcomed as a spouse and legitimate family researcher. Charlotte Lewin macslewin@aol.com

On July 1, 1854 (shortly before he moved to Kansas) Hiram Karr received from David Demaree a deed for 16 sq ft in the SW corner of Sw 1/4 Sec 35 T76 R 25 (or 2S) in Warren Co. The deed appears in Warren Co Deed Index book 184701856. We were advised that there was not a cemetery there, our only possibly thought as to why someone would purchase 16 sq ft. Karr also placed a mortgage on the property. Is there someone knowledgeable about Warren Co that help me a bit with the location within the county of this piece of property, and any idea why someone would purchase 16 sq ft. I also need to know if there is a Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Warren or Marion Co IA. Thanks for your help! Gayle gayle1@wheatstate.com
Hello All, Sorry for the trouble, but some kook sabotaged my e-mail subscriptions to the Rootsweb.com mailing lists. I can still receive postings to my USER683614@AOL.COM box, or here. I also have about a dozen screen names with two other Internet providers, so if those of you who I am helping will e-mail me privately, I'll give them to you. I hope this problem will resolve itself. Hello to the Great State of Iowa, I am searching for any information anyone can provide me with regard to the surname TARRANT and FEDEREN. Both families lived in various parts of the state, but spent quite a bit of time in the Minneapolis area. I am searching for PHILIP FEDEREN (1883) and his wife EDITH FEDEREN (1884) and their two children FABIOLA TARRANT (1897) and CECILE TARRANT (1893). They were last known to be in the Twin Cities area in 1944, but their descendants could be anywhere by now. They were relatives of GEORGE A. SHANNON AND ISABELLA (McDonald) SHANNON of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and their son ROBERT D. SHANNON, who was last known around 1942-44 to be living in Spencer, Iowa. Robert's wife was named JESSE and his children were ANNABELLE and GEORGE, also of Chippewa Falls, WI. Any information regarding these families or their descendants would be greatly appreciated. Hi! I've been cleaning my office (smile) and am finally starting an inventory of all the records and documents I have in my possession. I have been placing this inventory on my web site listed below: http://www.angelfire.com/mt/jenniesfamily/index.html I have got a lot of items posted already. I've got probably hundreds of other documents that I need to inventory. If you see something that you're interested in, let me know and I'll try digging it out. Look under Families, Documents, & Records of Warren County, Iowa. Keep checking back. I'll be posting like mad in the next two days. Happy Holidays!! Jennie

Does anyone out there know where I could find censuses (sp?) for Iowa for 1860, 1870, 1880. I found one for 1856 but this seems to be too soon to find my ancestors. My great, great grandfather Knute was born in Norway. My great grandfather John was born in 1863 in Iowa Falls. I'm trying to locate the family on a census to get more information. Thanks, Linda
Hi There I'm new to this list and hope there's someone out there who can help me. I'm looking for any information on William Alexander HODGES b. 9 Aug 1866 in Indianola, Iowa I think. He married Ida May HANER b. 20 May 1871 on 29 May 1889 in Indianola. They had 4 children: Frances Leona b.24 Feb 1892 Charles Claude b.21 Aug 1896 (Grandfather) Ruth b. ?? Howard Harvey b. 1902 They moved to Saskatchewan in the early 1900's and ended up residing in Regina, SK. I also have in my possession a well worn new testament that has written inside "This Testament carried through the civil war by W.W. HODGES". This I presume would be my Gr. Gr. Grandfather. Any information on the HODGES or HANER families or suggestions where I could go for information would be greatly appreciated. Linda Avram 550 Cedar Avenue Duncan, B.C.
