I am looking for a burial or death record of Elijah Benjamin. He died after 28 Mar 1850 and before 1854 possibly in Lacona, IA. That is where his daughter, Eva Jane Benjamin, was born 2 Apr 1851. I would appreciate it if you could look in your cemetery records. Thanks.
Hi all. I'm trying to find information/family of Effie/Effa Elvira King, born 1843 in IN, married June 27, 1862 or 1863 in Warren County. I have no idea who her parents were but she married John Perry Thompson and together they had at least 5 children. The LDS site shows her husband as John B Thompson but family says it was John Perry Thompson and he was born in 1841 in OH. In 1880, the John and Effie appear on the Trenton, Grundy County, MO census with 5 children. If anyone knows anything about Effie King or John Thompson, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks :)
In the 1880 census, there are about 30 VanScoys living in Warren County Iowa, mostly in Virginia township.

Dear list members, As of today, I have nearly completed creating pages with brief history of some early Primitive Baptist churches, and surnames of members which we can prove, in about forty (40) counties in Iowa, as links to our main website. We have extensive information of this kind on our website for Illinois counties. I wish the information was more complete for Iowa, but we have given the surnames of members that we have. It is the best we can do unless we can locate more of the missing church records or association minutes. Maybe someone out there can help us. The surnames we have given serve as an index to our database which includes full names, and in some cases we have obituaries, etc. If you wish to take a look at our whole website, go to: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html Or, if you wish to go the Iowa page only, or directly, replace the pbl.html at the end of the URL with FamHist-Iowa.html We welcome you to write on our guestbooks, and let us know if you think some of your family were members of this church. Sincerely, Robert Webb The Primitive Baptist Library Carthage, Illinois ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Rebecca, The only two Howery men that came to Warren County, IA that I am aware of was Isaac Howery and David King Howery. They were brothers from Shelby Co., IN. David King Howery did not have a child named Philip so I'm thinking that your Philip belonged to Isaac Howery and wife Catharine Foust or 2nd wife Margaret Kirkpatrick. Sorry, but I did not research Isaac's family. Isaac stayed and died in Warren County, IA but David moved his family to Butler Co., KS cr 1885. Think maybe this is your connection? If so, I have a little more data on Isaac and his two wives. Sammie
Thank you for your return. I have not gotten much information out of Warren or Marion Counties. I do know that in the 1900 census John C. Dowden and his second wife Cora A. Howe lived in New Virginia. Living with them was Johns daughter from a previous marriage(Julia Miller) Maude Born Oct 1889. That is all of the information I have ever gotten on this Lady. Gladys was born in 1893 and Nan (my Mother) was born 31 July 1896 died 18 Jan. 1933 in Des Moines Ia. burried in Des Moines. Also living with them was Johns father Otho Dowden Born in Highland county Ohio was in the Union Army from ILL in the Civil War Married Sophia Vandeventer in Fayette Co. Ohio 18 Sept 1858. Also heard that he had a wife named Day?. Otho died in Marshalltown at the old Soliers Home. I have heard that they had 9 children. Bertha being the youngest born 28 August 1882. All of these children with Sohia Gladys married Arch Marsh nad had one child Rex Marsh lived all of his life in Des Moines. He died a couple of weeks ago. Nan Married Thomas Joseph Flanagan in Des Moines and had 8 children. I am the Sixth. I have not heard anything on the Dowden Family especially Maude and Bertha. You can e- mail at kcid323@aol.com. There is no hurry I have waited this long. thank you.
Have you rec'd information re your Dowden, Vandeventer and Howe families from your inquiry at Ancestry.com? I no longer live at New VA, IA, but still know a lot of people there and have some Warren Co., IA reference books. If you haven't rec'd any info yet, reply to this note and I will try to help you. (Am short on time at the moment and don't want to search unnecessarily, but will be glad to help if you need it!)
I am only distantly related to the Hadleys. It is wonderful that you care enough to try to get these articles back to their families. It helps to keep the past alive. Jean Peterson
Shaver Cemetary - go south of Indianola on Hwy 65/69. At four mile the highway splits - 65 goes east and 69 continues south. Stay on highway 69. In the next mile there is a very sharp curve to the right. Instead of going into the curve go straight onto the rock road. The road will meet county highway R73. Go east on it and then to the next south. The cemetary is on that road on the left hand side. Indian Valley - take R73 on south to G76. Go west to R69 and turn right (north). I'm not sure of the distance but the cemetary is on the right (east) side of the road.
Try the Warren County Genealogical site rootsweb.com\~warrenia\ It show both methods
I am particularly interested in the descendants of James M. (b 1817 Philadelphia PA) and Mary KARR )b 1826 Ross Co OH) BROUSE who were married in 1839 in Highland Co OH, and settled in Marion Co, IA (and some perhaps in Warren Co, IA). The BROUSE children born in the 1840-50 time frame include Malinda, Standford, Charles, Albert, Matilda, Elmyria, James, Melissa and Farrius. I understand James M. is the son of Peter (1783-1860)and Rebecca (1789-1876) BROUSE, James wife Mary KARR BROUSE is the sister to our great-great-grandfather, Hiram C. Karr. Their parents are Thomas and Mary MONTGOMERY KARR. Thank you. Gayle gayle1@wheatstate.com
