    1. Re: James S. PEEry or PERry
    2. Well, we have a the possibility of a match. But as I am preparing a family book, on the Descendants of Dennis Springer, I am trying to avoid mistakes. I have no firm birth date on James S. Peery/Perry. The parents, I believe of these two males, were Joseph I. Peery and Catherine Jolliffe, who died in Monongalia Co, West Virginia in 1885 and 1893 respectively. What further information do you have on James? Please email me directly at RizerK@erinet.com, Kathleen Rizer.

    1. Reeves and Brooks families 1870
    2. I have information that states Lydia Reeves Brooks and her family moved to Iowa sometime around 1870 after the death of her husband Matthew Brooks. Her twin brother Solomon Reeves is listed in the 1870 Warren County, Union Twp. Census. I am needing information on her death, where buried etc. Is there someone on this list that can do a look up for Death, cemeteries, etc? I don't know if she even was near her brother, but seems fairly logical. I sure would appreciate anything at this point.

    1. Re: Weeks from Spring Hill
    2. My grandfather, Admiral Maury Weeks, left Floyd County, VA when he was one year old. Many of the Weeks clam moved to Warren Co., IA at the same time . Hence a town in Warren Co named New Virginia. Lafayette was the son of James M Weeks, son of George Weeks who was the twin of my gggrandfather. If you haven't seen it yet, check out http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/!barbr/Weeks.htm I also found a Lafayette Weeks on the Illinois Death Index. He died 10 Sept 1926 in Gillespie Twp, Macoupin Co., IL. Don't know it that's the right one, but worth a try.

    3. Rebecca, go to Password Central, http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ and request a report of all the lists you are subbed to. You'll get a nice list with clickable links for unsubbing -- be sure the single word unsubscribe is both subject and the only message. Send them all, and save those emails in your Sent mail folder. When you return, you can just r-use those emails, removing the "un" from each subject and message, and send to re-subscribe. If this doesn't work for any list in particular, contact the listowner directly, by writing Listname-Admin@rootsweb.com, where Listname is the actual name of the list, no -L, no -D. Hope this helps, Valorie Bradsditz@cs.com wrote: > > Hello > I am going on vacation this afternoon for a week...can I get my mail held for > a week...PLEASE.I willo end up will thousands of messages if not.

    1. Re: Brush College School
    2. This is from a 1916 newspaper article Dist. of Brush College is no more, It has been absored by a progressive age - merged into the consolidated district of Spring Hill. Mr. N.F. Wood who purchased the building for the sum of $132, has moved it to his farm, and after remodeling, it will be occupied by his son, Emmet as a tenant. There are many pleasing and interesting associations connected with the district, being organized in the year 1852. The first school house was buiilt with logs, (hewed on one side) about 18 feet square, 8 feet hight to the square, clapboards for roof and a loft of native lumber and pucheons for a floor. The "cracks" were chinked and daubed with mortar made of lime and sand. A log was cut out almost the full length in the north, the space being filled by a narrow window in the east about two feet square supplied all of the light and when the sun was not obscured by lowering clouds, answered tolerably well. The seats were composed of slabs from six to eight inches broad, two holds were bored at each end to receive "legs" of different lengths for the small or large pupils. Pegs inseted in the walls just below the long windows upon which was placed a slaaaab, smooth side up answered the purpose of a writing desk. Three boards natiled to the wall three or four feet long smeared with oil and lamp black served as a black board. A cannon stove in the center of the room, a wooden pail and tincup constituted the furniture. Water was carried from the well of the nearest neighbor. I'll need to find the rest of the article. It will be a few days because I'm right in the middle of county fair.

    1. Re: Brush College School
    2. Cathy, Thanks for the information. My grandmother was Maude Lavina Kime Weeks. I believe that she taught at the Brush College School for three years, probably before beginning a family in 1907. Do you know if there are any records on the school? My daughter and I are both teachers, so I would love to document another generation of teachers.
