To my knowledge, they were one of the Dutch Catholic families that settled in the area in the latter 1800s. There is a connection to my wife's family through the Myers/Schwartz families, into which my wife's uncle married. I'll ask her when she gets home from work if she can add anything to this. Meantime, here are a couple of clippings that might be useful. Clipping, probably from Ottumwa Courier, undated (estimated 1943), "Mrs. Sadie Myers Dies At Age 63." Obituary of mother of Elrene Myers, wife of Paul F. Lemberger. "Mrs. Sadie Myers Dies At Age 63 "Mrs. Sadie Myers, 63, wife of Earl Myers of Ottumwa route 5, died suddenly at her home at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. "She was the daughter of John and Margaret Schwartz, born in Wapello county October 16, 1879. She had lived in this county all her life. "She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic church. "Surviving are her husband, Earl; son, Ellsworth, Ottumwa route 5; five daughters, Mrs. Harold Vandello, Ottumwa, Mrs. Boyd Yelton, St. Louis Mo., Mrs. Paul Lemberger, Ottumwa, and Irene Myers, at home. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Charles Lunkley, Ottumwa, and Mrs. Mary McFarland, Mexico, Mo.; two brothers, Carl Schwartz of Ottumwa and Jim Schwartz of Drakesville. "Short services will be held at the residence Friday at 8:30 a.m. and at the St. Mary's church at 9 a.m., where a solemn requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh, V.F., Rev. T.C. Donohoe and the Rev. Father Albers. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery. The casket will be taken from Johnson's chapel to the residence late this evening." Clipping, probably Ottumwa Courier, undated (probably 8 May 1948), "Irene Myers And Joseph Foitik Take Vows This Morning." Irene Myers And Joseph Foitik Take Vows This Morning In a single-ring ceremony this morning in St. Patrick's Catholic church, Miss Irene Myers, daughter of Earl Myers, became the bride of Joseph Foitik of Dubuque. The Rev. T. C. Donohoe read the service at 8 o'clock and celebrated the nuptial mass before the altar on which were vases of pink and white snapdragons and carnations. Miss Kathleen Vaughan sang "Ave Maria" and "On This Day O Beautiful Mother" before the ceremony. The music for the mass was played by Miss Mary Margaret Vandello, niece of the bride. Miss Myers' wedding suit of pale beige summer gabardine was fashioned with a ballerina skirt. With it she wore a hat of matching color trimmed with leaves of green and her accessories were of cocoa brown. Her corsage was of orchids. Mrs. Paul Lemberger, attending her twin sister as matron of honor, wore a ballerina styled suit of powder blue with accessories of white and a corsage of sweet peas and roses in shades of pink. Mr. Lemberger attended Mr. Foitik as best man and ushering were the bride's nephews, Robert Vandello and Harry Yelton. A wedding breakfast and reception was held for the bridal party and members of. the immediate families, at the home of the bride's father on route 5. Assisting were Mrs. Boyd Yelton, Mrs. Roy Bachman and Mrs. Harold Vandello, sisters of the bride. The serving table was appointed with pink and white flowers and a tiered wedding cake in the same colors. When Mr. and Mrs. Foitik left later on a wedding trip to Denver, the bride was wearing a suit of brown gabardine with accessory accents of green, They will make their home in Dubuque where Mr. Foitik is employed as a government inspector in the Dubuque Packing Co. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Yelton and son Harry of St. Louis; Robert Vandello of Chicago; Richard Vandello of Champaign, Ill.; and Mrs. Rose Bratek, sister of the bride-groom, from Chicago. Miss Myers was honored at two showers, one given by Mrs. Lemberger, assisted by her sisters, Mrs. Vandello and Mrs. Bachman and one given by Mrs. Ellsworth Myers at her home on route 5.
