I'm still trying to find some proof of the marriage of William H. Dugherty (or Dougherty) and Martha Pepper on Feb. 19th, 1861, in Wapello, Iowa. The State of Iowa can't help me as this event occurred before registration began in Iowa (7/1/1880). Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next. We had always thought (no proof) that this couple was married in Illinois until recently. According to Family Search International Genealogical Index, records submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church, says that the marriage occurred in Wapello, Iowa.
