According to the Polk's City Directories, Walter and Lena Dooley lived on Capri Lane. Walter was a lab technician for John Morrell & Company. Morrell closed down in the early 1970s and many of its employees moved away. Some, who had worked for Morrell for many years were allowed to take early retirement and stayed in the Ottumwa area. Others held out and worked for Hormel when it took over the old Morrell plant. Can't tell you which Walter may have done. I can say that there are several (perhaps 20) Dooley families listed in the current Ottumwa phone directory.
I'm looking for any descendants of Walter Dooley & Lena Drake. Lena Dooley was living in Ottumwa as late as 1962 when her mother died(Elvira Kimble Drake). Her father was William Smith Drake who died in Batavia,IA. in 1948. Her grandparents were: Benjamin Drake & Sarah Underwood. Her great-grandparents were: Thomas Drake & Hannah Browning. I have further family information. Lena would have been a second cousin to my father. Thanks for any help! Sincerely, Pam Drake padrake@sbcglobal.net

Judy, your proof for the marriage of your search is as follows: William H. Daugherty and Martha Pepper were joined in marriage 19 Feb 1861 in Wapello County, Iowa solemnized by A.A. Douglas JP. The license to marry was issued on 19 Feb 1861. The cerificate of marraige was returned on 20 Sep 1861. This marriage was recorded in Book B, Marriage Register of Wapello County Iowa on page 269 and No. 23. This entry can be viewed on LDS FHC microfilm 979586. In the index (same microfilm) to early marriages, were the following: Book A Daugherty, Nathaniel and Mifs Sarah Cox page 19 Book B Peppers, William and Mifs Sarah J. Houk page 17 Peppers, Wills and Mifs Margaret R. Northcut page 242 In Book B Marriage Register page 17: William Peppers and Mifs Sarah J. Houk married 31 Oct 1852, by Edward Dudley the license was issued 30 Oct 1852. I do not know if the Nathaniel Daugherty and the two Peppers are related to your William and Martha but I included them just in case it proves of interest to your needs. A couple of notes; There is a death listing for an Elneor (Eleanor?) Sinnamon dated 24 May 1900, however there is no obit for this person in the Ottumwa Courier. Do not know if this is your E. Sinnamon or not. Cannot find a death date for James Sinnamon. You may wish to try the Wapello County Genealogical Society. They have transcribed the records of Ottumwa cemetery, which are more accurate than cemetery census records. If you get one, I will look up the obit for you. I could not find an obit for Maria Sinnamon anytime around 31 May 1900, however, Wapello county death records say that Maria Sinnamon died on 29 Jul 1881. You may want to write to the county Clerk of Court and obtain a death certificate to verify the date. However, there is no obit for the Maria Sinnamon who died in 1881. Wapello county death records indicate that William Duncan Sinnamon died 29 Mar 1904 not 1914. This agrees with the obit of Anna Sinnamon written in 1962 that I posted. There is an obit for William Duncan Sinnamon in the Ottumwa Courier dated 30 Mar 1904 on page 5, unforunatley, the page containing the obit is missing from the microfilm. You may be able to obtain a copy by writing to the Wapello County Genealogical Society. I stopped by there today but they were closed due to our snow storm. I'm still trying to find some proof of the marriage of William H. Dugherty (or Dougherty) and Martha Pepper on Feb. 19th, 1861, in Wapello, Iowa. The State of Iowa can't help me as this event occurred before registration began in Iowa (7/1/1880). Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next. We had always thought (no proof) that this couple was married in Illinois until recently. According to Family Search International Genealogical Index, records submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church, says that the marriage occurred in Wapello, Iowa. Just another puzzle to uncover. Judy Paulson
Found the following in Wapello county marriage records. Thought that they might be of some interest: Estella Turner married Charles W. Lewis on 14 Mar 1889 Eva Turner married Charles C. Harris on 26 Jul 1887 Evaline Turner married W. M. Curlin on 5 Apr 1894 I find nothing in the records on the other names (Charles, Mildred or Clyde) Bill Hansen Ottumwa, Iowa ----- Original Message ----- From: <JulieBskt@aol.com> To: <IAWAPELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 02, 2004 10:16 PM Subject: [IAWAPELL] William H., Anna, Charles, Estella, Eva, Mildred, Clyde/Turner family I have located the aunt of my husband's orphaned g grandfather in Wapello Co, Ottumwa from 1880 to 1920, and would like to find some descendants. The Turner family information I have is as follows: William H. Turner b about 1830 PA Anna (Lamb) Turner b about 1839 MO Charles Turner b about 1861 Ill Estella/Estalla b about 1866 Ill Eva b about 1869 MO Mildred/ aka Milla b about 1872 IA Clyde b 1880 IA I would like to have contact with anyone researching this family or descendants of this family. Anna was the aunt of my husband's orphaned g grandfather. All contact was lost with the family. William H. Turner and Anna married in 1860, Peoria, Illinois. In 1870 they were in the MO census and then in 1880 the whole family again appears in Ottumwa Co, Wapello, IA. By 1900, William had died and Anna appears in the census only with Mildred. It says that Anna had had nine chldren, of whom four were living. In 1910 and 1920, Anna again appears both times with Mildred still living with her....and again the infomration is that she had 9 childrend and four living in 1910. I found a possible marriage for Estella to Richard Goode in Lucas Co, September 9, 1884, but apparently this Estella died because there is another marriage for Richard Goode in Lucas Co in 1891. Therefore, that leaves the four children, Charles, Eva, Mildred and Clyde as the four living children. The others apparently died at birth or as very young children and gaps in the ages of the known children leave plenty of room for that. I would LOVE to have contact with ANY family of Anna's. We have a picture we believe is Anna and an older brother as well as their father around the time of the Civil War. The picture is not labeled as such, but her brother was known to have been in the Civil War and the younger man in the picture is wearing a uniform. I have not been successful yet in finding marriages for the Turner kids, other than Estella, but hopefully someone will have specific information here. I'm seeking marriage for the kids, probably Charles, Eva and Clyde (assuming Mildred never married, but maybe?). I'd also like to find out where this family was buried as I live in Iowa and would like to go to the cemetery next Spring to place flowers. William apparently died after 1880 and before 1900. I haven't checked the 1925 state census yet, to see if Anna was still alive, but that is a trip to Iowa City and we're having too much snow for me to make that trip safely. Thank you for any help with this. If descendants are out there...we'd love to have contact. We are in Iowa. If anyone as access to any information at all that might help, we'd be grateful. Vicky, I can find no listings for any Decker family member buried in Polk township, Wapello county. Tina did live in Polk township in 1870, she appears in the Federal census. She is living with her son, John H. Decker and his family. However, there is nothing in the census that would allow me to pinpoint a possible burial site. It's too bad they did not include addresses in the census records in those days. Sorry I could not have been more help.
