    3. Just a couple of other things that may be of help. Much of this you may already know. Marriage records in Mahaska County indicate that Sarah J. Pratt, who I think is your S.J., married Daniel C. Alexander on 3 Apr 1872. I checked the 1880 census and I can find Daniel Alexander (b. Indiana) along with wife, Sarah J. (born Indiana) with children Charlotte, aged 7 (born Iowa); Mary, aged 4, (born Iowa); and George, aged 11 months (born Kansas) living in Republic County, Kansas. The 1900 census shows the following in Cedar Township, Mahaska County, Iowa: Daniel C. Alexander, born Jan 1853 in Indiana Sarah J. Alexander, born Jul 1853 in Indiana George W. Alexander, born Jul 1879 in Iowa James E. Alexander born Aug 1892 in Kansas. There seems to be a discrepancy in the birth place of George, but everything else fits. The census also indicates that Sarah in the mother of 5 children, 4 are living. It appears that Elizabeth Pratt remarried to Albert P. Hoddy on 4 Sep 1873 in Mahaska County. The 1880 census shows Elizabeth and Albert living in Scandia, Republic County, Kansas. He is listed as Andrew P. Hoddy and is either works in or owns a restaurant. I can't find them in 1900 under Andrew or Albert. Fleming J. Pratt married Melinda T. Crouch on 8 Apr 1873 in Mahaska County, and Mary E. Pratt married John Webber on 15 Mar 1877, also in Mahaska County. Bill Hansen Ottumwa, Iowa

Does anyone have actual images of the census records for 1870? I have access to the Ancestry.com images but although I've searched for something all day, I can't find it. Anyone have something different? Easier to use? I am looking for ELIZABETH PRATT (about 48) KY (may say D for divorced) who was head of household, in 1870 with three children: 1. Fleming J. Pratt, about 20 2. Mary Elizabeth Pratt -- about 10 -- this was my grandmother and she was b. about 1860 "near Eddyville." 3. Louis Pratt -- about 11 There may also have been an older woman, her mother, with her (surname unknown) If there is an index, it may read "Elizabeth W. Pratt." Ancestry.com "says" there is an Elizabeth W. Pratt in Wapello County in the Blakesburg/Adams Township in 1870 on page 16. I've been over that entire township page by page with a magnifying glass but I can't find it. I recall having seen it "somewhere" once a long time ago. When I didn't realize I needed it. I know it's there. Somewhere. Maybe around Eddyville, but I looked there too. Elizabeth was/had been the wife of John Pratt (b. 1810 in PA) This family was in Parke County, IN in 1850 with children, Edward, Reuben, and Charlotte and Fleming J. who was 4 mo. old in 1850. If anyone has a connection to this family I'd love to hear from you. 3. Bill, thank you so VERY MUCH!!!! This is my family!! And it mentions another daughter born in Indiana that I didn't know about. This must be the sister my grandma remembered. Mahaska County makes more sense than Wapello for this particular group of people as my mother's family were mostly from that County. This is a major breakthrough for me in proving some events in this family. Thanks again from a former Ottumwan and OHS grad. According to the WPA records there is a James H. Campbell buried in Agency Cemetery, Agency Township, Wapello County, Iowa. There are no dates on tombstone. It only says "Co H 30th Ia Inf Civil War". Also buried in Agency Cemetery is Elizabeth L. Campbell born 1849 died 16 Dec 1878. Which might explain why son was living with grandparents and Elizabeth does not show up in 1880 census There is a James Campbell, aged 55, in Agency Township in the 1880 census, but the entry makes no sense to me. He is listed as head with Ann Campbell, aged 51; James S. Campbell, aged 18;, William Watsa Campbell, aged 16; and Edward Campbell aged 12. What makes it so confusing is that the relationship of James to Ann and the others is listed as Other. *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice.
