Hi listers, I'm looking for a Patterson-Douglas line that seems to have been in Van Buren County during the 1860s. My-g-g-grandfather was James W. Douglas (1861-1926). According to a biography of James he was born July 19, 1861 in Van Buren County, Iowa to a Henry Douglas and Mary (Patterson). Around 1874 this family moved south to Sullivan County, Missouri, and they seem to have made the move with other Douglases and Pattersons. James Douglas's father Henry Douglas seems to have moved back to Iowa by 1908, but his mother Mary (Patterson Douglas) remained in Missouri with him. That's all I know about James's family, and I haven't been able to find them in the 1860 or 1870 Census indexes, and I haven't been able to find his father Henry' (according to the bio) anywhere at all. Presumably, they are in Van Buren County somewhere, at least between 1860 and 1870. I also don't know anything about the Van Buren Co. Pattersons (where James's mother) comes from. They seem to have been a Kentucky family before that, but I'm not sure. This has been a big brick wall for me. If anyone recognizes any of the above or the Douglas/Patterson families I would love to hear from you.
