Jacque The Leader-Records was originally the Bonaparte Record for the most part. The Bonaparte Record office burned to the ground in 1907 and thus there is no microfilm or major collection of past issues. The microfilm at the Keosauqua Library and in state archives I'm sure starts in about 1910 if I'm not mistaken. What obituary are you looking for and where did the individual live? : Does anyone know where I can find copies of the local newspaper (currently : Leader-Record) back in 1873? I was also told that the Keosauqua Library is : missing that section of the newspaper and I have tried the Leader-Record who : does not have copies back that far. : ~~~~~~~~~~ I may have missed that time period, but... I was at the library today looking for Keosauqua newpapers that were available in that time period also. The earliest newspaper I could find (and that I was going to order after I order two others) was Weekly State Line Democrat Pub: Keosauqua, Iowa by Geo. F. Smith OCLC 15153793 Weekly NIH 1893,1894-7 When I do order through interlibrary loan and I have received it I will put a message to the list that I will also try to search for other surnames during that time period. Do not send me the surnames until the announcement or they will be totally disregarded by me. Cathy

I am trying to locate an obit back in 1873. I was told that the Fairfield Library had copies of the newspaper back in 1873 but was informed by them they did not. They referred by e-mail to Keosauqua Library and I have not heard from them. Does anyone know where I can find copies of the local newspaper (currently Leader-Record) back in 1873? I was also told that the Keosauqua Library is missing that section of the newspaper and I have tried the Leader-Record who does not have copies back that far. Any help would be appreciated. Ia Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/VanBuren/1268 Surname: SHRIVER, LEE ------------------------- My great aunt, Mary Edna Lee married Lloyd Shriver b 1887 Van Buren Co Iowa. His parents were John C Shriver and Carrie Mae Phillips. He had siblings Edytha May and Dorothy. I don't know if they are connected to your Hector Shriver, but if he was in the Mt Sterling area, they very well could be. I also don't know how Lloyd is connected to Addie Luvina Shriver. She m Charles Elmer Wollam and they had a son Forrest William Wollam according to a Wollam researcher Bettye Jo Scott. I would like to be able to connect these people together if possible.
My Grahams were early pioneers of Iowa, settling some time in the 1830's from Ireland. They lived in Plymouth, Van Buren Co., up-river from Farmington....... Mr. and Mrs. Graham and five sons. One son, John Graham (pronounced Grayham) married Elizabeth Langley on Oct. 29, 1840 in Union Co., Ark., where I think he went to work at the mill there. After their marriage, they went back to Plymouth, Iowa. They had five children: William, Bolen, Lucinda, Jasper Newton and John Wesley Graham. John died of pneumonia, while building a mill on the river, in July or Aug. 1850. Mr. and Mrs. Graham died there, as did the first three children, as infants. Elizabeth and sons returned to Union/Ouachita Co., Ark. The four brothers of John left Iowa; Jasper married and raised a large family in Ouachita Co., Ark. and John Wesley raised a large family in Bienville Parish, LA. Who were Mr. and Mrs. Graham? Their sons? Where were they buried? How can I obtain John's death certificate? Where did the four brothers settle? Any descendents? There are so many questions!!
Kay There is a Nixon Family history book in the collection at the Van Buren Co. library in Keosauqua. Perhaps it is the same Cox book that you are referring to. Your Barbara Troutman through her brother John is of my mother-in-law's Troutman line. In addition a first cousin of mine is tied in to the Nixon side. It's unlikely you will find an obit. for that early but it's worth trying. When the weather improves a bit, I'd be glad to "slip" out to Dibble cemetery and take a digital snapshot of her stone if I can find it. Seems like I did see it the one time I was out there a couple of years ago. Rich Kay Leeper wrote: > Our family moved to Cedar Falls Iowa in 1990 from Indiana. Our family moved to Cedar Falls Iowa in 1990 from Indiana. We thought we were the first in our family to set foot in this state. To my surprise I find that we are descendants of Iowa pioneers! Jacob and Barbara Nixon came to Van Buren County in the 1850's or late 40's. Barbara is buried in Dibble cemetery according to Nixon Family Memorials, Jean Cox editor. Other Nixon family members came to Iowa and stayed, but Jacob returned to Ohio after his wife's death and remarried. I have begun searching for deeds (or other information about the family while they were in Iowa), an obituary or any record of death information on Barbara . I believe her tombstone reads "Barbary Nixon" and she died in 1853 or 1856 (sources vary). I have not been able to get to Van Buren County (weather, time) and don't know what information might be available or the cost for any copies of records. I would be most grateful for any pointers or information available on this family. Barbara's parents were George and Margaret Troutman. I have been successful connecting to some other links for them.

I am looking for any information about Stephen Bilby JOHNSTON. He was born in Washington County, PA 1814. I do not know who his parents or siblings were except for one sister named Betsy who married a man named HAWK. He was in Van Buren County, by 1846 where he married Elizabeth JOHNSTON ( no relation). Stephen died Nov 1898 in Van Buren County. It is possible that his mother's maiden name was Bilby. I will gladly share any information I have. Celia

Posted on: VanBuren Co. Ia Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/VanBuren/1262 Surname: Wilkinson ------------------------- Stephen and Mahalia Stier Condon named their first son Elliott Wilkinson (1864-1867) The Elliott is for her father (1815-1891) -- I wonder if the Wilkinson might be her mother's, Elizabeth (1815-1893)maiden name. The name Wilkinson does not show up at all in Stephen's family. Mahalia Stier was probably born in Van Duren or Monroe Counties. She married Stephen in Centerville. Elizabeth interests me because she sued her husband and their son-in-law, Stephen Condon, was a witness in Appanoose County where they were living 1861-1863.

This is the information I have. . . Marion F. Dailey married Lucinda Sickles and had my gr gr grandmother Hattie Vell Dailey born 22 Nov 1894 in Henry Co. Iowa. She married Byron Elwood Carruthers in Washington Co. on 25 Nov 1894. They had 10 or 11 children one of whom moved to the Van Buren Co. area - my grandmother Wilma Vell Carruthers Barker. I can't seem to find any information on them as if they disapear. Moving out of state like your Daileys did would be one answer. Have you seen any of these names in your research?
