Hi Connie, I will be in Iowa in June for a family reunion and plan to do research in Van Buren Co. then. When I was in IA in Sept. 2000 I ran out of time and only did a quick marriage search for another line, I found Joseph Beeler's probate records quite by accident and have pursued him online, since finding he fits the son of our John Beeler and then I found the bio and it all fit together. I know I can order in the census, I do that frequently, tho often they are unreadable. I have compiled a considerable amount of data on our Beeler line. If you live in Iowa your cousin may be married to someone from one of those lines. Tho, some of the children moved on to KS and one daughter went back to Indiana. Several preceded their parents in death also. If your cousin has Beeler family history I would appreciate hearing from you all. Do you live in Van Buren County? The scenery there last fall was lovely. I enjoyed my visit to Iowa. Regards, Virginia

I have belatedly added a web page concerning the Cemetery Restoration Workshop that was held in Van Buren Co. in September of 2000. A slide show can be downloaded from the site for those interested. It is a rather large file, but one you may enjoy viewing. According to the A.I.S. index, there was no Beeler listed in the 1850 census. They do show a listing for Hannah Beeler in 1852, on page 59 living in Chequest township. Unfortunately, our library's microfilm collection does not include the 1852 Iowa Census. I have viewed the 1852 census at the State Historical Library in Iowa City. I'm not sure about the 1847 census but suspect it is at the State library as well. The index does show Hannah Bealen in 1850. When you come back to Van Buren Co. in June, be sure to allow time to spend not only at the courthouse but also at the Keosauqua Library where the extensive collection of the Van Buren Co. historical society is housed. You will find it worth your while, I'm sure. Rich Virginia L Aldridge wrote: > Hello, > My name is Virginia L. Aldridge. I believe it is the 1856 census that asks how many years they've been in Iowa. Hello, Does anyone have access to the microfilm of the 1847 IA State census for Van Buren County? If so can you tell me if the John Beale listed could possibly be John Beeler? Does this census list how many years they have lived in IA as others sometimes do? Regards, Virginia
Hello, My name is Virginia L. Aldridge. First, let me compliment your county on the wonderful USGENWEB site you have on the internet. I have found it most helpful in my research. I am researching the BEELER family, descendants of Isaac Beeler and Jane Hughes Beeler. Below is the data I have compiled on John Beeler son of Isaac and Jane Beeler. I am seeking any available data on this family. I was in Van Buren Co., IA in Sept. 2000, but only had a short hour to spend at the courthouse. I will be returning in June of this year to do more research. Does anyone have access to the 1850 census for Van Buren Co. who could tell me what data is listed for Hannah Bealen (Beeler) and her children? Also would like to know if Hannah Emerick is listed on the 1880 Van Buren Co., IA Federal Census? Her son's bio said she died aged 63, if she was born 1818 as stated in the bio, she should be listed in the 1880 census. I'm wondering if anyone has info on a George W Mitchler who married Mary J Wescott on 19 Dec 1850 in Van Buren Co? I also show him in an index of the 1852 IA State Census in Van Buren Twp. (p 44). If anyone has access to the 1852 Census, I'd appreciate a lookup. Thanks for any help! The Surname Search on the 1860 Census page is now working properly. Previous to now, it searched the entire web site for the given surname. Now it will search only 1860 Census files and will check a submitted surname in all 12 townships at once. http://www.rootsweb.com/~iavanbur/1860census.htm Rich ___________________________________________________________ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»¥«¤»§«¤» Rich Lowe richlowe@web-iowa.com Van Buren Co. My gg-grandmother, Elizabeth Langley b 1823 KY or PA, lived in Clark Co., Indiana, with her parents, James W. Langley and Judah Judith Maddox, from 1824 until around 1838. From there, they went to Union Co., Arkansas. Elizabeth married John Graham in 1840 and went to Van Buren Co., Iowa, with him to live near his family in Plymouth. John died there in 1850, of pneumonia, at the age of 30.
