June, Where did your JAMESON family live in Van Buren county? My gr-gr-gr-grandparents, David and Ann (HOOK) JAMESON moved to Winchester, Van Buren county in the early 1850s, from Hookstown, Beaver, PA. Other members of the family, including my gr-gr-grandparents, John Hook JAMESON and his wife Mary TRASTER, also moved to Van Buren county at that time. David's brother, Robert JAMESON was the first of the family to go to Van Buren county in the 1840s, having lived prior to that in Beaver co, PA and Holmes co, OH. Many members of this JAMESON family are buried in Winchester cemetery, including Robert's mother, Isabella, who -- according to a published tombstone inscription -- died in 1849 at the age of 72. If 72 was her correct age in 1849 (and I am doubtful that it is), she would have been too young to be the mother of David (who was born in 1792) and his two older brothers. The father of David, Robert, and their 6 siblings, was William JAMESON. If your JAMESONs connect with this family, I would like to share information with you. I am researching the John Hanson Anders family. He and wife, Mary Gardner, had the following children: 1) William Henry 2) Walter H 3) Margaret 4) Marshall 5) Arthur Charles 6) Ella 7) Susan 8) Otis 9) Albert William Henry was my great-grandfather. He left Iowa as a young man and came west. I know very little about his siblings. Are any of these names familiar to any one. I do know that by the time William died in 1947, four of his siblings ( Walter, Marshall, Susan, and Albert) were all ready deceased. Ella was married to Walter Townsend and lived in Farmington in 1947. Any help and information is appreciated. Ia Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/VanBuren/11243 Surname: Hales, Herrington, Watson, Cox, Blackburn, Emmons, Baker ------------------------- It appears that I should again get into the Van Buren County, Iowa queries. Gary Blackburn, I too was born and reared in VBC. My tombstone in Center Chapel is the fourth generation of Hales there. My ggrandfather, Thomas Hales, is the grandfather of your Artensa Tensie (Cox) Blackburn (1879-1960) whose mother was Mary Elvira (Hales) Cox (1852-1923). After more than 40 years research, I have the Hales line back four more generations to Hugh (ca 1700-1749). It may be of interest to know when our Hales roots in VBC started. Thomas' older brother Moses (ca 1818-1845) left Carroll County, OH in early 1840 after he married Mary Jane Emmons on Feb. 26, 1840. One of the oldest estate probate records in the new VBC courthouse shows that Moses was apparently a successful business man with a mill, wool carding and store. However, he died young on 23 Sept. 1845 probably when In 1845 and 1846 there were but three families out of seven hundred people who were not ill. Bilious and intermittent fevers raged and there was a heavy mortality list in consequence. From HISTORY OF VAN BUREN COUNTY. I do not know if Moses had children or where he may be buried. Burial may have been in the Oak Lawn Cemetery at Keosauqua. Thomas and Moses' uncle, Nathan Herrington (1808- 1887) and wife Julia Ann Baker(1812-1867) are buried there. Thomas Hales and wife Sarah Jane Watson came to VBC in the spring of 1864 with their eight of their nine children;William George was born in VBC. I will be happy to answer questions about these people as known to me. Charles Eugene Hales Sun City, AZ.
