Ia Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/VanBuren/11374 Surname: EARHART, LOWE, CHRISTENSEN, WAMPLER ------------------------- No, I wouldn't consider the information I have about this George Earhart's birth date to be all that good. He has been proposed as a possible parent for my husband's great-grandfather, Jacob Earhart, but I'm not sure that the information matches at all, or that there wasn't more than one George Earhart in that four-county area at the time. I'd be interested hearing anything else you might have about your George's family. Claudia Wiggins Earhart email: svje@netpath.net

Ia Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/VanBuren/11373 Surname: Earhart, Wismer, Stapleton, Hudson, O'Connor, Tyson ------------------------- Are you positive on the birthdate and place of George? I have a George Earhart, born or baptised 11 Feb 1811, in Lennox and Addington Co., Ontario, Canada. His parents were Asahel and Elizabeth (Dirick) Earhart. Asahel had brothers named Samuel and John. A cousin would have been named Charles. If you have good information as to your George's birthplace and date, then you'll probably want to disregard this. I thought I'd ask since I don't have any information on this George after his birth, and I don't know where he ended up.

My name is Sylvia and I am new to your VanBuren list. I am interested in the family of Moses Davis who is listed in the 1840 census of Van Buren Co. Iowa. Moses Davis was born c. 1777 in Greenbrier Co. VA. He married Winifred Wallen 1799 in Grainger Co. TN. they were the parents of 12 children all believed to be born in Claiborne Co. TN. Names of the childern are Elisha, Harmon W., Silas, Isaac, John, Moses Jr., Aaron, Catherine, Judia, Rachel, Winia, and Demarius. In 1840 there are 4 children listed living in the home of Moses Davis, the youngest girl age 5-9 is believed to be a grand-daughter named Winnie Shumate. The other children are believed to be Demarius, Winia and Moses Jr. The family was living in Mahaska Co. Iowa by 1850 with only the grand-daughter Winnie Shumate age 16. I am trying to find out what happen to Demarius and Winia. Is any one working on this Davis family?? Sylvia

Sharon and others. I must jump into this thread also. I have an Andrew GEORGE that I've been trying to chase down. I know nothing of him other than that he married Mary Eliza JOHNSON of my line in Van Buren county 23 Dec 1843. She died somewhere in California in 1886. Would like to learn more about this Andrew GEORGE. Any connection? Rich Sharon Franklin wrote: > Hi Shirley, > I am Interested in your Mary Elizabeth George. She has two siblings with the birthdates of 1832 and 1842. Would any of this be in your time frames? sherri

Hales of Tucson, AZ. This huge listing contains thousands of names and is the work of more than 30 years by Mr. Hales. It can be found on the web page as . Marian Cox has inquired about the CHRONICLES's accuracy of the Van Buren County Hales. Several years ago I submitted the CHRONICLES data on my great grandfather, Thomas Hales (1822-1904), his descendants and ancestors back to Hugh Hales, Jr. (ca1737-29 April 1817). My data is sourced from a family bible, wills, estates, cemeteries and a lifetime of research and travel. I have since added a Hugh Hales, Sr. (ca1700-1749) to the line after finding his estate proceedings in Annapolis, MD. Mr. Hales work in the CHRONICLES is quite accurate and while there may be a few typos and places where new findings have not been added, most of us agree that all genealogical work it is subject to review. Back to Van Buren County and Thomas Hales (1822-1904); It may be helpful to list a few of the more closely connected married surnames that I have connected to his family by way of Hales daughters: ALLEN, ALLEXANDER, AMEND, BOYLES, COFFMAN, COX, CROWELL, HALL, HERRINGTON, JACKMAN, JEWELL, KEENAN, MANSFIELD, MATTHEWS, MILLIGAN, RANDALL, SIMPSON, TAYLOR, VANTIBURGH, WESTFALL, WRIGHT Needless to say there are many many more. I have a copy of a book "The Family of Hugh and Mary Hales" by Robert Hale (note spelling) with hundreds of names. This publication is on file in the Library of the Historical Department of Iowa in Des Moines. (929.2 H137 Vol II) As always I am willing to share information. Charles E. Hales

Posted on: VanBuren Co. Ia Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/VanBuren/11361 Surname: MILFORD, CATES ------------------------- The William Milford family appears in the 1860 Iowa census for Van Buren co., Farmington Township (ref: REEL NO. M653-342,Sheet No.417, Lines 36-40, continued on Sheet 418, Lines 1-2) as William, 36, born in PA; wife Mary J.,28, born in MO, and five children born in IA (William, 10; Mary E.,8; John M.,6; Margaret E., 5; Julia,1). In the 1880 Iowa Federal Census, Van Buren Co., Farmington Township, Enumeration District 34, Pages 15-16, line 49, son John, age 24, is listed with three additional siblings ( James, 17; Dorette, 15; and Nannie, 13). They are living next door to their older sister, Margaret MILFORD Cates, 27, and husband, William Cates, 33, my great grandmother and great grandfather. The children's mother and father, William and Mary J. Milford, had apparently died before 1880. According to the obituary (copy available) for the eldest son, William, b. 15 Nov 1847 in Van Buren County, Iowa, and d. 2 Dec 1913 in Van Buren County, William and Mary J. Milford had 10 children. As constructed from above census records: William, Mary E., John M., Margaret E., child5(?), Julia, James, Dorette, Nannie, child10(?). It is not known if the two unnamed children are placed correctly. Child5 was placed between Margaret E. and Julia to account for a four year gap between them on the 1860 census. All the children may have been born in Van Buren Co., Farmington township area. Dorette (Dora) married and moved to Putnam Co., MO. According to son William's obituary in 1913, there were two brothers and three sisters surviving. Desire to exchange information on these Milford and Cates families with anyone researching these lines.

She was born 13 Oct 1793. I believe she was the daughter of David CHAPMAN. Nahum and Huldah moved to Van Buren County, Iowa 20 Sept 1839 and settled near Vernon. All eight of their children: Nahum Jr., Huldah, Lucy, Luther, Alonzo, Roxinda, Catherine and Laura A., were born before coming to Iowa.
