Mike Peters officiating. Mr. Schwery died June 14 at Myrtue Memorial Hospital. He was born in Panama. He farmed in the Panama area for most of his life. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama, the Knights of Columbus No. 1741 of Earling and served on numerous church councils and committees. He was a church usher and Communion minister. Mr. Schwery and his wife, Verelda, were married for 55 years. Survivors in addition to his wife include five sons, Lyle Schwery and wife, Jolene, of St. Charles, Myron Schwery of Overland Park, Kan., Mike Schwery of Blair, Neb., Keith Schwery of Panama, and Joel Schwery of Chaska, Minn.; two daughters, Jolene Brown of Fremont, Neb., and Michelle Ferguson of Omaha; seven sisters, Margaret Coenen and Zita Engle, both of Westphalia, Magdalena Iodapp of Council Bluffs, Nonna Adams of Santa Cruz, Calif., Theresa Wellman of Neola, Mildred Leuschen of Portsmouth and Cleopha Nelson and husband, Newmark, of Seattle; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. There will be a wake service today at 7:30 p.m. at Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Panama.Pauley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
