Mrs. Kohl came with her parents to Cedar County, Iowa while a child where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Ezra V. Kohl of Mechanicsville, Iowa, March 13, 1879 and settled on a farm in Jones County. The couple came to Shelby County in 1880, locating on partly improved land in Lincoln Township. For fifty-three years this was their home, till they retired from the farm and moved to Tennant. Mrs. Kohl was the mother of seven children, four of whom preceded her in death: William F., Edgar G., Fred D., and Atman V. The remaining children are Mrs. Eva Essie Mastenbrook of Lebanon, Oregon; Josie Faye* Kohl of Council Bluffs, and Morris Kohl of Tennant. Also eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Of the Shrope family, one brother is living, Al Shrope of Mechanicsville. Mr. Kohl's death occured April 7, 1935 at the age of 85 years. Mrs. Kohl united with the Evangelical Church in early life and transferred her membership to the Methodst Church at Tennant when they moved to that small town. Her last illness dates from January 11, when she suffered a paralytic stroke. The strength of her long life was given to her family, her church and to friends and neighbors, who mourn her departure. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:00 p. m. at the M. E. Church in Harlan with arrangements in charge of the Pauley Funeral Home. Rev. C. B. Guest, pastor of the M. E. Church at Tennant officiated. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Messrs. Fred T. Milier, Emil Hansen, John Boardman, Emery Green, Frank Green and Frank Escher. * Mae
