She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and High School graduating with the Class of 1942. Jan. 9, 1945, she married Donald L. Leuschen at St. Mary of the Assumption. To this union seven children were born. Bernie was a lifetime member of St. Mary of the Assumption serving as past president of the Rosary Society. She also was a member of St. Mary's Sewing Circle. She died Sept. 5, 2002, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE, at age 78 years, one month and 19 days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert, Dec. 2, 1947, and sisters, Helen Sternberg and Mildred Chamberlain. She is survived by her husband, Donald Leuschen of Panama; children, Shirley (Ed) Arkfeld of Omaha, NE; Kate (Jim) Musich of Bedford; Jan (Bob) Wilson of Omaha, NE; Jean (Wayne) Hodapp of Denver, CO; Doug Leuschen of Omaha, NE; and Beth (Hank) Stueve of Phoenix, AZ; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Marcella "Sally" Finken of Panama; brother, Michael Blum, Jr. (Theresa) of Harlan; nieces and nephews and other relatives. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 9, 2002, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama, with the Rev. Michael G. Peters celebrating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Panama, with Phil Gubbels, Dave Castleberry and Dean Gubbels honorary casket bearers. Casket bearers were Jon Abbott, Eric Heimendinger, Jason King, Paul Hodapp, Paul Walston, Dave Arkfeld, Scott McMillin and Dan Musich. Pauley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
