Harlan, IA Newspaper April 11, 1935: Ezra V. Kohl The death of Ezra V. Kohl, 85, pioneer resident of Shelby County, occured at his home in Tennant Monday night following a long illness. The body was removed to the Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan and funeral services held at the Methodist Church at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Rev. J. D. Payne of Tennant in charge. Interment was in the Harlan cemetery. Ezra V. Kohl, son of William and Hannah Feddelling* Kohl, was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, August 27, 1849 and died at his home in Tennant, April 7, 1935 at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 11 days. When six years of age, the family moved to Jones County, Iowa, locatinf near Mechanicsville. He was reared on a farm and received his education in the public schools of that county. Mr. Kohl was united in marriage March 13, 1879 to Miss Mary Chrope** of Fremont, Cedar County, Iowa. They resided in Jones county until 1880 when they came to this County and Mr. Kohl bought 160 acres of partially improved land four miles north of Tennant. He increased his holdings to 240 acres and made many improvements. Here he spent fifty-three years, moving to Tennant in 1933. Until his retitement, he was one of the enterprising and successful business men of Lincoln Township, all which bespeaks of the thrift and wiser management of Mr. Kohl. Mr. and Mrs. Kohl were the parents of seven children, three of whom preceded him in death, Wm.F., Edgar and Freddie D. Those remaining are Eva Essie, Josie Faye***, Morris L., and Atman V. These with his widow, Mrs. Mary Kohl, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors mourn his loss. In early life Mr. Kohl united with the Evangelical church to which he gave many years of faithful service. Recently his membership was transferred to the M. E.
