Oppold HARLAN - The funeral for Franklin Gregory Oppold, 87, of Dunlap will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael G. Peters officiating. Mr. Oppold died Nov. 17 at Dunlap Care Center. He was born in Panama. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Panama. He served in the Army Corp of Engineers during World War II. He was proprietor of a hardware and lumber store. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a former mayor and member of Panama Town Council and Panama Citizen of the Year in 1971. He was an adjutant of American Legion post No. 601 of Panama. Mr. Oppold and his wife, Genevieve, were married 60 years. Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Patricia Leuschen of Omaha, Helen "Beth" Muenchrath of Des Moines and Alice West and husband, Earl, of Ashland, Neb.; two sons, Timothy of Panama and Franklin and wife, Joanne, of Dunlap; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Wake service will be tonight at 7 at Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Panama.
