(Nub) Stracke was born in Westphalia May 18, 1929, to Henry and Mary (Coenen). He graduated from St. Boniface High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-53. He was a sergeant on the Council Bluffs Police Departments and was an officer for 27 years, retiring May 13, 1986 with the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus No. 10805, American Legion Post No. 2, Eagles Club, American-Italian Heritage and umpired and refereed for more than 40 years. He had also served on the Parks and Recreation Commission. He and his wife, Therese (Wehr), were married for 51 years. He died Aug. 22, 2002, at age 74 years at Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Nancy K. Darigol (Gary) of Selah, WA and Mary J. Digilio (John) of Omaha; three sisters, Laurina Schmitz of Harlan; Bernadine Ausman (Lee) of Phoenix, AZ; and Marie Nufrio of Fountain City, IN; a brother, Bernard (Barbara) of Defiance; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church Aug. 26, 2002, with the Rev. Dan Kirby officiating. Burial with military rites by American Legion Post No. 2 were at St. Joseph Cemetery. Cutler-O'Neill-Mayer-Woodring Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
