He died of a lingering illness Jan. 5, 1966, at the age of 65 years, five months and eight days. He attended schools at St. Mary's and rural Portsmouth. Jan. 12, 1926, he married Leaneda* Lefeber at St. Mary's church, Portsmouth. To this union seven children were born: Ralph, Wooster, Ohio; James, St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Robert (JoAnn) Adams, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Richard (Arlene) Mahoney, Omaha; Mrs. Jerry (Mary Lou) Robb, Azore Islands; Shirley, Omaha; and Donna Jean, deceased. Mr. Fuhs, a retired farmer, was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church of Portsmouth and the Holy Name Society. Preceding him in death were one daughter; parents; one brother**, John; and two sisters***, Mrs. Margaret Jurschak and Mrs. Mary Mullink. Surviving are his wife, Leaneda*; six children; two sisters, Mrs. Matt Mickels****, Portsmouth and Mrs. Andrew Peterson of Harlan and one brother, Jacob Fuhs of Portsmouth. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Jan. 8, 1966, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic church, Portsmouth. Msgr. Michael Schwarte officiated. Pallbearers were six nephews, Urban Peterson, Joseph Jurschak, Robert Lefeber, Richard Mikels, Harold Lefeber and William Fuhs.
