Alice was born in Douglas Township in Audubon County, Iowa on March 11, 1914. She was the daughter of Jens and Martha Andersen, who were residents of Audubon, expect for about six years between 1922 and 1928 when the family lived on a farm near Leon, Iowa. She was a member of Audubon High School girl's basketball team that attended the state tournament. Upon graduation from Audubon High School, Alice worked in Harlan, Iowa. She married Jean Copeland Havick of Harlan, December 31, 1937, and the couple resided in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area. During the 1950's Alice was employed by the First National Bank in Omaha. Over the next fifteen years, beginning in 1958, Alice and her husband owned and operated restaurants in Audubon, Missouri Valley, and Red Oak. Alice and her husband returned to Council Bluffs in 1979. In Council Bluffs she was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Federated Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jean; her brother, Edwin Andersen, who died in combat during World War II, another brother, the Reverend Leo Andersen, a Lutheran Minister; and a sister, Myrtle Hansen, who lived her entire life in the Audubon community. Survivors include sisters, Freda Alff of Guthrie Center, and Lorraine Simpson of Exira. In addition, Alice is survived by a son, John Havick and his wife Barbara, of Stone Mountain; two grandchildren, Ann Havick Findley (David), Steven Havick (Mary); and two great grandchildren, Christopher and Elizabeth Findley. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Henry- Livingston Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Henry-Livingston Chapel with interment following at Harlan Cemetery. = = = = = = = = = = Alice Havick ©The Harlan Tribune - posted with permission 04/17/2006 Havick, 92, Council Bluffs, died April 13, 2006. COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Alice M.A. Havick, 92, Council Bluffs, died Thursday, April 13. Services will be Tuesday, April 18 at 10 a.m. at Henry-Livingston Funeral Chapel in Council Bluffs with burial in the Harlan Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, April 17 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Havick is survived by sisters Freda Alff of Guthrie Center and Lorraine Simpson of Exira; son John (Barbara) Havick of Stone Mountain; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
