Sorensen, age 78, formerly of Neola and Missouri Valley, passed away March 31, 2006. George was born January 13, 1928, in Pipestone, Minn., to Herman and Austra Berg Sorensen. He graduated from Bancroft High and Wayne State College. George served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948. He taught World History and Drivers Ed at Tri-Center School, and was the founding coach of the Football program there. He retired in 1989 after 30 plus years at Tri-Center. George was a member of the Wayne State Football Hall of Fame and an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, and Nebraska football fan. George was preceded in death by sisters, Helen, Dorothy Erickson, and Karen Palmer; brothers, Francis "Sonny," and Donald; and his parents. Survivors include wife, Rosemary of Council Bluffs; daughters, Frances Clark and husband Lilbon of Willmar, Minn., Carrie Sorensen of Saginaw, Mich., Gail Pogge and husband Dan of Minden, Iowa; son, Michael and wife Joni of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; 1 step granddaughter; sisters, Lorraine Pizzoil and husband Angelo, Betty Palmer and husband Richard, Delores Mendoza, all of Livermore, Calif., Joan Forney and husband Jerry of Sparks, Nev.; brothers, Harold and wife Karen of Pullman, Wash., Harlan "Swede" and wife Janet of Greely, CO; sister-in-laws, Mardell Sorensen of So. Sioux City, Neb., and Rosemary Sorensen of Livermore, Calif. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Peggy Hall officiant. Luncheon to follow at St. Pat's Hall in Neola, Iowa. Memorials to family wishes preferred.
