Bowen & Co., page 292, it states that there were the following railroads that started or ran through Shelby County, Iowa: 1856 - Iowa Central Air Line Railroad, followed by: Burlington & Missouri River (in 1915 became the C.B.&Q.) Mississippi & Missouri River (now the C.R.I.&P.) Iowa Central Air Line (became the C.&N.W.) (Chicago & Northwestern) Dubuque & Pacific (became the Illinois Central) McGregor & Missouri (became the C.M. & St. Paul) Sioux City & St. Paul In February 1859, a railroad convention was held at the pioneer village of Magnolia, Iowa, Harrison County. The Chicago & Northwestern Railroad first crossed the state, completing its line to Council Bluffs in 1867. The Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railway, reached Council Bluffs in 1869. The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy reached its line to Council Bluffs also in 1869. Page 113 of this same book shows that C. W. BURRIGHT was one of the early settlers in Douglas Township, Shelby County, Iowa. He is listed in the poll list of Douglas Township, showing the voters at the November election of 1876.
