WALNUT -- Alec G. Mertz, 10, Walnut, died Saturday, Sept. 17 at his home. Services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Walnut Community School gymnasium with burial in the Layton Township Cemetery at Walnut. Visitation was held Monday, Sept. 19 from 6-9 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home Avoca Chapel, with family greeting friends Monday from 6-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mertz is survived by his parents Gregory and Michelle (Slusser) Mertz of Walnut; brother Michael Mertz of Walnut; and grandparents Lydia Johnson and Don Baumfalk, both of Firth, Neb., and George Mertz of Walnut.
