Kenkel ©Daily Nonpareil 03/18/2006 Charles M. Kenkel, age 75, of Council Bluffs, passed away Friday after an extended illness. Born Feb. 14, 1931, in Earling, Iowa, to the late Herman and Katherine Kobold Kenkel. Charles graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1949 and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. On June 16, 1956, he married Catherine Guida. Together they raised children, Carol Wettengel, Patty Pettit and her husband Jim, son Rick and his wife Teresa, all of Council Bluffs. Five grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Bowen of Council Bluffs; brothers, Marvin of Portsmouth, Iowa, Urban and wife Anne of Omaha, Dean and wife Lois of Omaha. Charles was preceded in death by brother, Donald, nephew Dan, and sister Irene Corn. Charles worked for Campbell Soup in Omaha for 39 years as a supervisor. Rosary recitation Sunday at 7 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. at funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial Monday 11:30 a.m. at Queen of Apostles Church. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites tendered by American Legion Post #2. A luncheon will follow at Queens. Memorials to Bethany Lutheran Home and Alegent Health Hospice.
