ELK HORN -- Retired Army Major Gilbert E. Lacey, Jr., 76, Elk Horn, died Sunday, Feb. 2 at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan. Services were held Thursday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery near Cumberland, with graveside military rites. Lacey is survived by his son, The Rev. John G. Lacey of Lincoln, Neb.; daughters Sherry (Barry) Gallagher of Great Falls, Mt. and Shelly (Michael) Schauwecker of Tempe, Az.; eight grandchildren; two sisters -- Marilee (Clair) South of Cumberland and Ruth (David) Melena of Peoria, Az.; stepchildren Michael Borden of Underwood, Rebecca (Darwin) Tiarks of Okinawa; seven stepgrandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; and step-sisters-in-law Betty Stipes of Clarinda, Marcia (Bob) Youngren of Kimberling City, Mo. and Virginia (Bill) Hunter of Clarinda. ©The Harlan Tribune 2003
