Harmon died at his home in Irwin, Sunday morning, May 22, aged 78 years. [Born - October 6, 1831; Died - May 22, 1910] His health had been gradually failing the past few months, but he was bedfast only two or tree days. It seems he was afflicted with no particular disease, but that he just naturally reached the end of his journey. He was one of Irwin's first business men, coming here from Marshall county in 1882 and going into the drug business. He was a man of great energy and push and had done much to build up the town. He was a man strong mentally and physically, and an indefatigable worker, was a great lover of flowers, and took great pride in having his residence and surroundings look clean and neat, and his flowers and shrubs were always perfectly cared for. By hard work and strict economy he accumulated considerable property about town, which brought a good rental. When a young man he was one of many who got the gold fever, and he crossed the plains from Iowa to California with an ox team and a prairie schooner in 1849; but returned to Marshall county, this state, and took up agriculture. Funeral services were held at the home Monday, conducted by Rev. John Carter, assisted by the O. E. S., of which Mrs. Harmon is a member. Deceased leaves a wife, two sons, and a host of friends to mourn his loss.
