Thomas A service celebrating the life of Gene L. Thomas will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Timberline Church in Fort Collins. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Allnutt Riverside Chapel, 1530 Riverside Ave. Gene was born Sept. 15, 1928, near Crescent City in Pottawattamie County, Iowa to Truman William and Edith Liva (Fouts) Thomas. He was the youngest of five children. The Thomas family moved to Harrison County, Iowa in 1934. Gene attended country schools throughout the eighth grade. He farmed with his father until 1948. On Aug. 9, 1948, Gene was married to Mary Lou Sorey at the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Woodbine, Iowa. To their union two sons, Patrick Gene and James William were born. Gene and Mary Lou farmed in the Woodbine, Iowa area from 1948 until 1960. In 1960, the family moved to Fort Collins. Gene worked for Larimer County as a road construction foreman from 1960 to 1972, for Union Manufacturing, as a truck driver, for three years and for the City of Fort Collins street department from 1975 until he retired in 1994. Later, he worked for Hageman Earth Cycle for four years and was a volunteer shuttle driver at Poudre Valley Hospital. Gene moved to his Heavenly home on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005. He had reached the age of 77 years, one month and fourteen days. His parents; his sisters, Eldora DeForest and Elizabeth Rodasky; and his brother, George W. Thomas, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou; his sons, Patrick and wife, Sharon, Jim and wife, Ruth; two grandchildren, Amanda and Joshua; two step grandchildren, Shannon and husband, Dennis Gallegos and Jamie Seiler and friend Jason Walton; two step great-grandchildren, Paul and Taylor Gallegos; and one brother, Bill Thomas. He is also survived by several other relatives and a huge host of friends who all knew him as "Uncle Gene". Uncle Gene lived his witness of the love of God by all of the special acts of kindness and caring that he performed for those in need and those he loved. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Pulmonary Rehab Unit at Poudre Valley Hospital or to the charity of your choice in care of Allnutt Riverside Chapel. Schmitz was born at Westphalia, Iowa, December 26, 1919, the son of Adolph and Therese Musich Schmitz. He received his education at St. Boniface Catholic School in Westphalia, from which he was graduated in June of 1938. On November 17, 1948, Francis was united in marriage with Norma Leuschen at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. After their marriage he farmed in the Dow City area, retiring in 1979 to Denison. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and traveling on tours. Francis was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, and at the time of his death, he had held the longest continuous membership in the Denison Council #2074, Knights of Columbus. Francis died Friday evening, October 21, 2005, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 85 years, 9 months and 25 days. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Therese Schmitz, and one sister, Mary Ann Klein. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Norma Schmitz of Denison, Iowa; four sisters, Delores Obrecht of Harlan, Iowa; Verdella and husband, John Schill of Omaha, Nebraska; Verelda Schwery of Harlan, Iowa and Theresa and husband, Gerald Goetz of Irwin, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa, with Father Edward Murray as Celebrant. Others participating in the mass included servers, Jeremy Baxa, Alec Ruskell and Christina Madsen; Lector, Kris Lehan and Eucharistic Ministers, Nora Millea, Ann Delanty and Tudy Bretey. Music for the mass was provided by the St. Rose of Lima Adult Choir singing Here I Am, Lord, Be Not Afraid, Prayer of St. Francis and Precious Lord, Take My Hand with Jean Cornelius serving as accompanist. Pallbearers included Darrell Klein, David Obrecht, Keith Schwery, John Goetz, Robert Goetz and Jerry Goetz. Interment was at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. Following the services the family invited all in attendance to join them at the Parish Center for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild. On Tuesday, October 25, 2005, a Legion of Mary Rosary was prayed at 4:00 p.m., a Parish Vigil service was held at 7:00 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary was prayed at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

She was raised in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1934. On June 18, 1934, Bessie married Melvin Arthur Thompson in Mt Vernon. The couple lived most of their married life in Marion, Iowa, and Bessie worked as an office manager for Wray, Robb, and Bickel Orthopedic Medical Clinic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for many years. Melvin died in August, 1979, in Cedar Rapids. Bessie had been active in the First Presbyterian Church in Marion, and was a member of the Pythian Sisters Lodge in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed doing hand work, as well as playing cards and Bingo. Bessie I. Thompson died on Thursday, October 20, 2005 at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, at the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 20 days. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Arthur Thompson; one sister, Elda Kohl; and one brother, Vernon Kohl. Her survivors include two sons, D.A. (Karen) Thompson of Harlan, Iowa, and Dennis (Marciene) Thompson of De Forest, Wisconsin; one daughter, Alice (Charles) Johns of Bismarck, North Dakota; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. A memorial service was held on Friday, October 28, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion, Iowa, with Rev. Howard Chapman officiating. Judy Chapman served as the organist. Burial of ashes was in the Campbell Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Beedle at the Faith Lutheran Church of DeMotte, IN on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Jared Raebel officiated. Kenneth L. Beedle, 74, passed away September 23, 2005, at Crestmark Nursing Home in Roselawn. He was born on November 11, 1930 to Myrtle (nee Sorey) and Wilson Beedle in Woodbine, Iowa. He attended Woodbine High School where he graduated. On February 17, 1952 he married Elizebeth (Betty) Myers. He served in the United States Army at a MASH unit. In 1965 he moved his family to DeMotte. He was a retired truck driver. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of DeMotte, the VFW of Rensselaer, and the American Legion of DeMotte. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, 1 daughter, Barbara (Kenneth) Peregrine, 2 sons, Rusty (Patty) Beedle, and Dusty (Marlene) Beedle, 6 grandchildren. Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zk.2ADI/2029 Message Board Post: Emmett Mullen Denison (IA) Bulletin/Review 10/21/2005 Emmett Francis, son of Emmett Francis and Mabel (Houlihan) Mullen, was born June 22, 1931, at St. Catherines Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. When he was young, Emmett lived in Texas and Oklahoma. His family settled in Denison, Iowa where he graduated from Denison High School in 1949. He then worked at Halletts Bootery in Denison. From 1949 to 1951, Emmett served in the Army National Guard. On April 13, 1953, Emmett was united in marriage with Donna Terwilleger at Defiance. Emmett and Donna made their home in Manning where they owned and operated the Manning Bootery. In the mid 1980s Emmett became an insurance agent with Capitol American Insurance Company and continued this line of work until retiring in the late 1990s. While the Manning Bootery was no longer a full-time business, Emmett continued to sell shoes to anyone who asked. Emmett was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, playing euchre, snow skiing, bicycling and going to ball games with his kids, grandchildren and friends. On Tuesday, October 11, 2005, Emmett died unexpectedly at San Diego, California. He was 74 years, 3 months and 19 days of age. Emmetts parents and a nephew Michael Frenking precede him in death. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna Mullen of Manning; three children: Thea and husband Tom Weinandt of Omaha, Nebraska; Marty Mullen and wife Sue of San Diego, California; Rourke Mullen and wife Stacie of Manning; eight grandchildren: Abby, T.J. and Zach Weinandt; Michael and Matthew Mullen and Jenna, Hanna and McKenna Mullen; two sisters Nadine and husband Walter Robetor of Las Vegas, Nevada and Noreen and husband John Frenking of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2005 at the Sacred Heart Church in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Robert Gralapp served as Celebrant for the service and interment at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning, Iowa. Mass Servers were Ericka Tank, Noah Tank and Robert Tank. Gift Bearers were Emmetts grandsons. Eucharistic Minister was Margaret Frees and Lector was Laurie Stein. Pat Heithoff served as organist for the Sacred Heart Choir. Those serving as honorary casketbearers were Emmetts grandchildren and close friends. Those serving as casketbearers were Pat Callender, Jerry Callender, Kenard Carstens, Lenny Carstens, Tom Bennett, Myron Boatzke, Wayne Eich, Ralph Dobler, Doug Hargens, Roger Hansen, Frank Wegner and Tom Wittrock. American Legion Post 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517 provided the military honors. A prayer service was held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2005 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa with the Reverend John Thomas officiating. The family invited everyone in attendance of the service back to the church for lunch and fellowship. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of the arrangements.

She attended rural school north of Denison, Iowa, then parochial school near Ricketts and Schleswig. Clara was united in marriage with Ralph Weems on June 5, 1930. Two children were born to this union. They farmed for a time an lived at Primghar, Botna, and Denison. Ralphs health deteriorated and he died in 1953. Clara worked for many years at Laurite Creamery and Produce in Denison, first testing cream and then as a bookkeeper. On October 11, 1959, Clara was united in marriage to Harold Crouch of Irwin. The couple was very active in the community, where Harold owned and operated a grain elevator. They especially enjoyed music and dancing together. Clara was the director of the Irwin Keen-Agars Kitchen Band for many years. She also enjoyed cards, gardening, sewing and being a homemaker. Clara loved to bowl and golf as well. Through the years, she has traveled to Colorado, Florida, Texas, Nevada and Wyoming. Clara was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. Claras husband Harold died in March of 2005. Due to a disabling stroke, Clara became a resident of the Manilla Manor nursing home in June of 1997. She directed the Manors rhythm band, enjoyed visiting, bingo and musical entertainment. Clara died there on October 12, 2005, at the age of 92 years and 23 days. Preceding Clara in death are her parents; her husband Ralph Weems; husband Harold Crouch; eleven siblings: Alma, Hilda, Frieda, Minnie, Elma, Bertha, Gus, Bill, Marie, and Edna and Carl in infancy; and son-inlaw Chris Brink. Clara is survived by her children: Larry Weems and wife Diana of Vinton; Darlene Brink of Perry; stepchildren: Merri and husband Don Armentrout of Harlan; Georgene Von Tersch of Colorado; six grandchildren: Donovan, Rocky and Vickie Brink; and Brian, Brandon and Bradley Weems; four step grandchildren: Rod, Cheri, Dana and Drew; five great-grandchildren; four step greatgrandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Virgil Crouch and wife Mildred of Irwin; sister-in-law Bernice Crouch of Irwin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2005 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, Iowa. Reverend Paul Frank officiated the service and interment held in the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City, Iowa. Bonnie Lorenzen served as organist for congregational hymns, The Church is One Foundation, How Great Thou Art and Beautiful Saviour. Honorary casket bearers were Rocky Brink, Christopher Brink and Sean Brink. Those serving as casket bearers were Vernon Nemitz, Donovan Brink, Phillip Stier, Brian Weems, Brandon Weems and Bradley Weems. Visitation was held after 3 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla, Iowa on Sunday, October 16, 2005. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.

He died Friday evening, October 7, 2005, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of 83. Bob was born on a farm near Panama, Iowa and received his education in rural schools in Panama and Defiance as the family later moved to the Defiance area. After completing his education, he worked for various farmers in the region. On April 10, 1944, Bob was united in marriage to LaVerne Slechta at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. The couple settled on a farm near Denison and were blessed with the birth of three children. He and his family lived on the family farm for their entire married life. After the death of LaVerne, Bob moved to Denison. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who in his leisure time, enjoyed Cubs baseball, square dancing, socializing at a game of cards and spending winters in Texas. When he was active in farming he enjoyed trips to Wyoming to buy cattle. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima parish in Denison and a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Circle and Swing Square Dance Club in Denison. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Adam, Anthony, James and Peter as an infant, one sister, Catherine, and his wife, LaVerne in 2003. Survivors include two sons, Robert Jr. and his wife, Karen of Denison; David and his wife, Diane of Denison; one daughter, Barb Larsen of Council Bluffs; seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph and his wife, JoAnn of Denison; and two sisters, Margaret Manz of Council Bluffs; and Lucille Eggers and her husband, Myron of Rockport, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. Fr. Edward Murray served as Celebrant of the service with interment at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. Organist Jean Cornelius provided the organ accompaniment for the St. Rose of Lima Choir. Lector was Ann Delanty and serving as Altar Servers were: T.J. Pauley, Kristen Marten and Moriah Bohlmann. Pallbearers were: Stephanie Yackley, Melissa Taylor, Todd Larsen, Alisha Satre, Greg Reisz, Gary Reisz and Cory Reisz. A Legion of Mary Rosary was held at 4:00 p.m., and a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2005 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Parish Center, served by the Altar Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
