Mr. Gittins was born and grew up in Council Bluffs and has lived in Neola for the past 33 years. He was a farmer and owner of Gittins Trucking. He was a member of Neola First Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by father, Lee Eugene Gittins and grandmother, Helen Gittins. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Lois (Carlson) Gittins of Neola; children, Gina Wiggins and husband, Richard, of Bellevue, Neb., and Adam Gittins and fiance, Melissa, of Neola; grandchildren, Gage and Elizabeth Wiggins; mother, Iva Gittins of Council Bluffs; brothers, Robert, LeRoy, David and Don; sister, Bernice; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Open visitation at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Wednesday until 3 p.m. Thursday when Mr. Gittins will be taken to Neola Presbyterian Church. Family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Church. Funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Church with Rev. Dean Sparr officiating. Burial is in Neola Township Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Church. Memorials may be offered to Neola Presbyterian Church or to the family.

Vogt, age 87, of Neola, Iowa, passed away Dec. 29, 2005, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb. Charles was born in Council Bluffs on October 3, 1918, to Hans and Olga (Techau) Vogt. Charles grew up on a farm in Neola, was in the CCC's where he met his wife Frances Brewer. They were married September 3, 1942. After marriage Charles became a farmer until his retirement in 1983. Charles was an elder in the Neola Presbyterian Church, and was Mayor of Neola for ten years. He became a Mason 55 years ago and served as Wor- shipful Master many times. He joined the Order of East- ern Star in 1950 and was Worthy Patron six times in Neola and 1 year in Harmony Chapter in Council Bluffs. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald P. Vogt. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances (Brewer) Vogt, of Neola; daughter, Marcia Wohlers and husband, Dennis, of Papillion, Neb.; sons, Lynn Vogt and wife, Cecilie, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Melvin Vogt and wife, Mary, of Neola; grand- children, Matthew and Stephen Wohlers, Dr. Kymberly Vogt, and Kari Holm; great granddaughter, Sydney Wohlers; sister, Lorene Phillips of Omaha; aunt, Audrey Knight and husband, Kent, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nieces, nephews, and many cousins. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Viborg, South Dakota. Frieda attended rural school near Viborg and attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, for 1-1/2 years after which she was employed as a secretary in Omaha, Nebraska, for a year. On July 30, 1930, Frieda was united in marriage to Ralph K. Nielsen at Bethany Lutheran Church in Viborg, South Dakota. After their marriage, Frieda and Ralph farmed in Jackson Township, Shelby County, Iowa. They retired from farming in 1964 and moved to Harlan, Iowa. Ralph and Frieda celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary together. Ralph died on December 31, 1992. Frieda died at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, on Sunday, December 4, 2005, having attained the age of 99 years, 1 month, and 4 days. She resided at Salem Home for 6-1/2 years where she did needle work and provided numerous items for the annual craft auction. Frieda was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, participating in all areas of church life at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Iowa, and since 1968 had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. For several years she was an active member in the Women’s Quilting Guild. In addition to her parents, Frieda is preceded in death by her husband Ralph K. Nielsen; one sister Emma Smidt; two brothers, Elmer Smidt and Francis Smidt; one son, Stanley Nielsen; and one son-in-law, Fred Louis. Her survivors include two daughters, Jeanne (Connie) Sorensen of Milford, Iowa, and Lona Louis of Northbrook, Illinois; two sons, Don (Marie) Nielsen of Atlantic, Iowa, and David (Sandy) Nielsen of Wayzata, Minnesota; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Nielsen of Harlan, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends. Memorial services were held on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Heather Ploen officiating. Amy Williams served as the organist and Sherry Lytle was the soloist. Inurnment will take place at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Jacksonville, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, to Salem Lutheran Homes, Elk Horn, or to Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp, Milford.

Mohr is survived by daughters Janet (Stanley) Rys of Omaha and Joy (George) Serovy of Ames; sons James (Nancy) Mohr and Jeffrey (Deanna Nelson) Mohr, all of Tucson, Az.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and four sisters-in-law -- Nona Hermanson and Lillian Hermanson, both of Bayard, and Alice Osborn and Betty Mendaz, both of Los Angeles. He attended school in Elk Horn, Iowa. On October 23, 1965, David married Mary Kay Nelson in Vail, Iowa. The couple lived in Atlantic, Iowa, for 4½ years, and in 1970, moved to a farm located west of Elk Horn. David was actively engaged in farming until his death. David was a lifelong member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, where he had served as an usher. He was active in promoting and improving the Elk Horn Fire Department, and was a township trustee. David enjoyed watching auto racing and spending time with his family. David R. Lange died on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at his home in rural Elk Horn, Iowa, at the age of 63 years, 10 months, and 10 days. David was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Lange of Elk Horn, Iowa; one daughter, Barbara Luiken of Elk Horn, Iowa; one son, Todd Lange of Elk Horn, Iowa; one sister, Karen (Chuck) Peters of Thousand Oaks, California; one grandson, Kyle Luiken of Elk Horn, Iowa; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 16, 2005, at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa, with Pastor Keith A. Menter officiating. Nancy Watson served as the organist, and Keith A. Menter was the soloist. Honorary casket bearers were Ross Lange, Kyle Luiken, Thomas Christensen, and Charles Peters. Active casket bearers were Gail Lange, Mike Murphy, Jim Nelsen, Melvin Lange, Darrell Frederiksen, and Ivan Andersen. Burial was in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of the arrangements.
