    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zk.2ADI/2181 Message Board Post: Melba Alberta Shearman Melba Alberta, daughter of William and Laura (Eckholdt) Hamann, was born September 10, 1907, at home on the farm near Irwin, Iowa. She started her schooling in rural school near Irwin and completed it in the Manning Schools. Melba then moved to Chicago, Illinois, to work in a department store. After it was robbed, she felt uncomfortable living in the city and returned to Iowa. On September 9, 1926, Melba was united in marriage with Vernon Mathew Shearman at Harlan. They lived in many communities in Iowa because of her husband's work with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. She was a homemaker all of her life, caring for their two daughters. When Vernon retired from his last position with the railroad in Wall Lake in 1971, they made their home in Lake View where they enjoyed the final years of their seventy-two years of married life. In 1997, due to failing health, they became residents of Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View. Her husband died the next year at the age of 92 years. Melba continued to live at the Black Hawk Life Care Center where she died on Friday, March 10, 2006, at the age of 98 years and 6 months. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband and great-granddaughter Stephanie Reinking. Melba is survived by her daughters Gloria Peters and Gwen Reinking of Lake View; grandson Dennis Reinking of Portland, Oregon; two great-granddaughters Amber and Robert Moyle of Wickliffe, Ohio and Natasha and Jon Fiediga of Euclid, Ohio; great-grandson Brook Reinking and Danielle Lockwood of Sunrise, Florida; five great-great-grandchildren Coty, Brittany, Bobby, Austin and Savannah; other relatives and friends.
