I have the History of Shelby Co., Iowa, and it contains references (but no biography, unfortunately) to C. J. BYAM as follows: 1. Page 58. TORNADO OF 1877: On May 17, 1877, a very destructive tornado originated in Shelby County, about four miles north of Shelby, running thence in a northeasterly direction. The first damage done was on the premises of C. J. BYAM, where corn cribs, fencing, etc. were destroyed. 2. Page 112. TOWN OF SHELBY; FIRST SETTLERS: Undoubtedly, the first settler of Shelby township was James HAWKINS, whose settlement there dates from 1865, although he entered land there in 1855. During the 1870's, there came the POMEROY brothers, George RINK, George W. ICKES, W. H. BROWN, D. E. MORRIS, L. MORRIS, Andrew MARSHALL, A. J. SAVAGE, J. C. MANSFIELD, Rush C. My maternal grandmother was Estelle Ann Byam b. 1Mar1880 in Shelby Co. Her parents were Clayton Jesse and Jennie Delilah Soesbe Byam. The family lived in Shelby Co. for several years until a financial loss caused them to sell their farms and move to Omaha. Is there anyone that can give me any information about this family? I had heard that Clayton had several farms and raised trotting horses. Don't know how much is true or how much is fiction. I found them in the 1880 census. Also have an autograph book that my grandmother had as a child with probably many names of people who lived in Shelby Co. at that time. Any help would be appreciated. Marge Mouer

My Charles Harper was the son of Elias, not Daniel; My mistake.David was the father of Elias and David was married to Susan/Sarah ?. Have no idea where David was from. Susan was born in PA in 1776. All the info I have on that. Elias born in Putnam Co,VA abt 1810. We cannot seem to find out where this line was from. Have two Ferguson lines in my Family, this one is on the Paternal side; and as far as I can tell after searching continually since 1977, no connections can be made to the Maternal Fergusons. I am directly decended from Samuel Ferguson & Mary Jameson Ferguson of Tazewell Co,VA. If you can find anything that might help me locate this other side, would appreciate it.Know they came from Ireland, but when or how, is the question. Thanks, Paula
