Richard E. Gubbels Father Gubbels of West Des Moines, Iowa, died on July 13, 2005 at Bishop Drumm Home in Johnston, Iowa, hav- ing attained the age of 67 years, 11 months and 18 days. Richard Edward Gubbels was born on August 18, 1937 to Peter and Clara (Bock) Gubbels on a farm near West- phalia, Iowa. He was bap- tized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. He attended school at St. Boniface in Westphalia and was a mem- ber of the St. Boniface Catho- lic High School graduating Class of 1955. After his high school graduation, Richard attended Conception Seminary in Conception, Mo., from 1957-1961. Then from 1961-1965 he attended Mount Saint Bernard Semi- nary in Dubuque, Iowa. He was ordained to the priest- hood on June 6, 1965 and cel- ebrated his first mass on June 7, 1965. Father Gubbels' first assignment was an assistant pastor at St. Anthony's in Des Moines in 1965. In 1969, he directed the Hos- pital Chaplaincy Program and was chaplain of the Cath- olic Council for Social Con- cern. From 1972-1978 he was assigned pastor of Queen of Apostle's Parish in Council Bluffs. From1978-1986 he was pastor at Holy Trinity Parish in Des Moines. From 1986-1994 Father Gubbels was assigned pastor of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Parish in Ankeny. It was in Ankeny that he built a new church. From 1994-1996 he was Pastor of St. Ambrose Cathedral Parish in Des Moines, resigning in 1996 due to health reasons. He was appointed canonical ad- ministrator of St. Peter and Paul's Parish in Atlantic, Iowa from Sept. 1996-1997 and from Sept. 1997-1998 he was canonical administrator of St. Michael's Parish in Harlan, Iowa. From July 1998-2001 he was pastor at St. John's Parish in Adel, Iowa. From January 2002-May 2002 he attended a Sabbatical in Menlo Park, California. From July 2002-03 he was pastor at St. Patrick's Parish in Neola, Iowa and St. Columbanus Parish in Weston, Iowa. He was appointed Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Carlisle, Iowa from July 2003 until his retirement in Feb- ruary 2005. Father Gubbels was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, No. 1741 of Ear- ling, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Clara Gubbels; two brothers, Pete and Alvin Gubbels; sis- ter-in-law, Mabel Grubbels. He is survived by five sisters, Sabinia Conrad (Elred) of Harlan, Iowa, Sylvia Goeser (Edmund) of Westphalia, Iowa, Virginia Lickteig (Cletus) of Denison, Iowa, Helen Wubbenhorst (Dwight) of Herman, Nebraska, Mary Ann Koesters (Francis) of Earling, Iowa; two brothers, Ambrose Gubbels (Rita) of Harlan, Iowa, Cyril Gubbels (Theresa) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two sisters-in-laws, Mi- nerva Gubbels of Avoca, Iowa, Catherine Gubbels of Harlan, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. The Mass will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa with two visitations held from 2 to 5pm Sunday with a Wake Service at 5pm, Sun- day, July 17 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines and visitation begin- ning at 11am, Monday, July 18 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia with a Wake Service at 7pm. Memorial contributions may be given to Holy Trinity Foundation.

Wiese, 80, of Sun City, Ariz. went to live with the Lord peacefully on June 10, 2005 after a valiant 8-year battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was born in Harlan, Iowa, May 6, 1925, but spent most of his life in Council Bluffs before moving to Arizona in 1993. Vern served his country in the US Marine Corps during WWII and retired with 20 years of service as an Assistant Yardmaster for the Great Western Railroad. He has been a member of the American Legion for 59 years, loved sports, and was an avid golfer. Most of all he loved all of us and he will be dearly missed. Vern is survived by Agnes, his loving wife of 58 years; many family members and friends who loved and adored him including brother, Virgil Wiese of Council Bluffs; daughters, Terrie Torgerson and husband, Jerry, of Coun- cil Bluffs, Diane Clark and husband, Steve, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Christi- ana, Jennifer, Scott, Sarah; great grandson, Darian; many other cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial Services were held in Sun City, Ariz. on June 16. Inurnment and Mili- tary Rites will be held on Sat- urday, July 16, 2005, at 10 am at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs. American Legion Post 2 will conduct honors. Family ask memorials be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, Mass. 01202. Family and friends to meet at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.

Gollobit Mass of the Christian Burial for Richard P. Gollobit, 62, were conducted July 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham, with Father Anthony Pick officiating. Interment was in the Cameron Center Cemetery north of Ross. Casket bearers were Louis Schultes, Allen Schoeppner, Bert Schoeppner, Matt Gollobit, Vernon Gollobit, and Bruce Gollobit. Richard Phillip Gollobit, the son of Mathias Thomas and Emma Mary Schnuettgen Gollobit, was born July 9, 1942, in Carroll and died July 8, 2005, at his home in rural Audubon County. Richard was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla. He attended Manilla Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1962. During high school Richard took flying lessons and had his pilot’s license and an airplane. After graduation, he helped operate the family farm and worked for other farmers. In 1963, he went on the road and was employed with Mac’s Amusement’s out of Huron, SD. In 1967, he had acquired enough equipment to produce his own carnival and started Rich’s Amusement Rides which he operated until 1976. He sold the amusement rides and drove truck locally and also sheared sheep for 10 years. In 1986, he went back on the road operating Northland Amusements until he sold out in 1997. He met Wanda Lacy in 1996 and they developed Rich and Wanda’s Concessions which they operated in a five state area. They operated the concession stand until 2002 when Wanda was unable to travel due to her fai! ling health. The past two summer’s Richard operated a fresh squeezed lemonade stand. Richard was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham. He was a member of Midwest Iowa Old Iron Club and Red Power Club which were antique tractor clubs. Preceding him in death were his special friend, Wanda Lacy; his parents; and his sister, Odelia Wenzel. Richard is survived by his children: Michael and wife, Deb Gollobit of Hastings, NE; Michelle Gollobit of Alamogordo, NM; Lisa Gollobit of Honolulu, HI; his grandchildren: Codi Michael Gollobit of Japan; Emma Lee Nichole Gollobit and Ryan Mathias Gollobit, both of Hastings, NE; his brothers and sisters: Theodore and wife, Donna Gollobit of Manilla; Mary Armstrong, Omaha, NE; Dorothy Schoeppner of Palmdale, CA; Edna Schulte of Earling; Imelda Ward of Omaha; Joseph and wife, Margaret Gollobit of Omaha; John and wife, Corrine Gollobit of Pierce, NE; Tom and wife, Trudy Gollobit of Omaha; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The couple farmed in La Grange Township for 26 years. They moved to Logan in 1968. Roy died December 9, 1992. Marie was a member of P.E.O. and Eastern Star where she was a worthy matron. She helped with the American Cancer Society and KMA Neighborhood club. Marie was an active member in the Woodbine and Logan Methodist Churches. She also held a district office for United Methodist Women. Marie died July 11, 2005, at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa attaining the age of 96 years, seven months, and three days. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Dean and Gene Leonard, two sisters, Ruby Karp and Minnie Force; and five brothers, Vester, Leonard, Chester, Albert, and Lester Walker. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Ann and her husband Carl Woods of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two grandsons; Russell Woods and his wife Laurie Woods of Omaha, Nebraska, David Woods and Nancy of Everett, Washington, three great grandchildren, Lisa Woods of Omaha and Kelley and John Woods of Everett; one brother, Lyle Walker of Harlan, Iowa; two sisters, Irma Williams of Logan, Iowa, and Velma Vining of Portland, Oregon; and many other relatives and friends.

    2. Someone sent me information on the library and my computer froze and now I can't find the e-mail anywhere. I believe you said it was open on Saturday from 9 to 12:30.     2. Thomas Clancy Hendricks died in Shelby Co., Iowa on August 3, 1914. His wife was Rebecca Graham. Is there anyone there who would look up an obituary for Thomas Clancy? I had sort of planned on going through there on Friday, but husband can't get ready to leave in time and don't think anything is open on Saturday for me to look at. Is there a historical society or genealogical society that might have old papers available on Saturday or perhaps the library might be open and I could look through them then. This is this week and I know it is short notice, but things didn't work out as planned. Jerilyn

Potts 1869-1948 <son to GW & MC I'm not sure who Anna M Potts(1878-1941) is or Wallace E. (1922-1943) is, but if they are near George and Marianna I would believe them to be family as well. I had just found George and his wife. He is a brother to my gr. gr. gr. grandfather Jacob Harrison Potts. I'd like to know as much as possible on his family.
