COOKING The practical in education found expression in the Davenport schools in 1888 when cooking was made an optional study for High school and Ninth grade girls. Rooms were fitted up in the building at Sixth and Main streets and Miss Mary Gillette engaged as teacher, in which capacity she continued until 1893, when upon her voluntary resignation Miss Barbara S. Morgan was chosen to take her place. She has continued in the position with the utmost satisfaction until the present time. From the ginning interest in this line of instruction has been general and enthusiastic. It was an addition to the course of study which the public heartily approved.
