My Dad always told me that Council Bluffs was quite a gambling town back in the 1800's and 1900's. Before today, I had never seen that listed as an occupation, however. While searching through the 1870 census for Council Bluffs, I came across the following, which I thought was interesting: M. F. Snyder, 34, gambler, b. NY Chas. Pool, 28, gambler, b. PA Thos. Lyman, 27, gambler, b. PA They each listed assets as a few thousand dollars, so they must have been on a winning streak. I thought this was fun and just wanted to share it. Mona
