February 15, 1837, Sparta, NC, d. February 21, 1930, Carson, Iowa, m. Rachel Dillard in Sparta, NC. He lived in Sparta area, and was the son of Zachariah Moxley & Susanna Wagoner. I have copies of his journals in which he describes himself as an avowed abolitionist and Union sympathizer during the Civil War, and that he ran an underground railroad for defecting Confederate soldiers. He got his nickname from being an outstanding marksman. He talks about the Confedrate Army putting a bounty on him for his activities, and having is house burned down. He eventually moved to Wheeler Grove, Iowa, where he lived the rest of his life. Some his stories were published in a local paper in the Carson area, but I am not sure which one. I am looking for any historical, or anecdotal information that might be available about him. Also, what newspapers were being published in the Carson, Iowa, area between 1880 - 1930 that he might have submit! ted articles/letters to for publication? I am interested in finding more of his published letters. Thanks, Rod L. Moxley, g-grandson.
