Lidgett 1872-1908 <http://iagenweb.org/boards/pottawattamie/obituaries/index.cgi?rev=32579> AUTHOR: Deb Gordon DATE: 7/12/2003 at 13:48:22 Surnames: LIDGETT Claude G. Lidgett 09/10/1908 While assisting companions in dragging a lake near Clearmont, Wyo., last Monday afternoon for the body of a man who had been drowned therein two days before, Claude G. Lidgett of Council Bluffs was himself jerked into the water and drowned before assistance could reach him. News of the catastrophe reached Council Bluffs Monday evening and Joseph Lidgett, the father, went to Wyoming that evening, bringing the body of his son with him. The funeral will be held from the residence, 615 East Broadway at 2:30 this afternoon. Burial will be in Walnut Hill cemetery. According to the story told Mr. Lidgett by the companions of his son at Clearmont, Claude Lidgett, together with a number of other men, was dragging the lake with chains stretched across the water which were pulled back and forth along the bed of the lake. The searchers were all riding horses and holding to the chains. In some manner Lidgett and his horse became entangled with the chain and were thrown into the water with Mr. Lidgett underneath the animal. Although efforts were made to get him out in time, Mr. Lidgett strangled to death. The body of the other man was not recovered until a day later. Mr. Lidgett was formerly a resident of Council Bluffs. He went to Wyoming about a year ago and has been there ever since. He was 36 years old and leaves a wife, four children, his mother and father and one brother. *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice.
