He entered into eternal rest at the Myrtue Memorial hospital in Harlan on March 27, 1972 at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 2 days. He was united in marriage to Viola Falk in Omaha, Nebr., on Dec. 22, 1920. They farmed in the Defiance and Irwin vicinities before moving into Irwin in 1940. Mr. Kjeldgaard then worked for a construction company until his retirement. After the death of his wife on April 21, 1958, Mr. Kjeldgaard continued to make his home in Irwin until 1968 when he moved to Walnut. He was a resident of Peace Haven Home at the time of his death. Mr. Kjeldgaard was an active Mason, belonging to Sardius Lodge No. 444, A.F. & A.M. of Irwin, Iowa. He was also a member of the Irwin Chapter No. 182 of the Order of Eastern Star. Besides his wife, Viola, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Holger and Andy Kjeldgaard; and an infant daughter. He leaves to mourn his passing: his daughters and their husbands, Dixie and Albert Shirm of Walnut and Ellen and T.L. Mattox of Apopka, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Cindy Young of Brunswick, Ga., Neal and Nancy Schirm of Walnut, Scott Mattox, serving in the U.S. Army, Christine, Kathleen and Susan Mattox of Apopka, Fla.,; and two great grandchildren, Todd and Tara Young of Brunswick, Ga. He is also survived by three sisters, Katherine, Christine and Clara Kjeldgaard, all of Omaha; and by several cousins and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Pauley Home for Funerals in Harlan, Wednesday, March 29, 1972 at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Sam Hee Shinn of the Walnut Presbyterian church officiated.
