This message is just a "WORD OF CAUTION" concerning www.genseekers.com . They are up to their old tricks again!! This group charges you to access their information (via password) and then provides links to free sites. You have to give them your bank account number, or a credit card number, so they can bill you. The guarantee that you can cancel at any time, but the cancellation notice bounces. One person has already had her account hit twice, although she only looked once and was disgusted to be linked to what she knows to be free sites. Constance

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/5519/Vl.2ADE/245 Message Board Post: How do you deal with this dept.? They encourage you send to them these requests. I used the form, included the fee, and today got back my request & money with statement that I am not entitled to that info. I need direct lineage. How come? I was looking for death records for 2 ladies. I sent my request to the State Dept, because I was not sure of the county. I believe it to be Pottawattami. I also had a request pertaining to divorces. No luck. In my own state we have no such restrictions. We could get info on strangers. What goes here? Thanks Maxine Barnett

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: BUSSE, BUNGE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vl.2ADE/244 Message Board Post: Hi. Looking for burials in the Avoca area. I expect to find perhaps four of the children of August and Margaret (Knott) BUSSE buried there, born from about 1873 to 1882, all died between 1880 and 1900. Children were Fred, Emma, Sarah and August. Another daughter, Lena (aka Helen or Helena), married Louis J. BUNGE about 1903 - seems she died between 1920 and 1930. Louis and Lena had 2 daughters, Helena Johanna seems to have also died prior to 1930, leaving father and younger daughter Louise Jeanne BUNGE. Can anyone fill me in on any details before I float a query to PCGHS? Thanks.

I have had a few requests to look up area physicians from the early settlement of Pottawattamie County. I have some materials which contain names and other info on physicians, but I don't have a truly comprehensive database. If you are seeking a deceased physician, you can have a search done at the National Genealogical Society for a $15.00 fee (prepayment required). If you wish to contact them, you can request a search at: National Genealogical Society Attn: Deceased Physician File 4527 17th Street North Arlington, VA 22207-2399 Since I'm opposed to paying for any genealogical data if I don't absolutely have to, I'm putting together a database of Pottawattamie County physicians from materials that I have or can find on microfilm. I'll send it to our computer whiz in the next day or so and have it posted to the Pott. Co. web site for everyone to access. Perhaps then, if you have info on deceased area physicians, you can add to the database too. Best regards, Mona Sarratt Knight
You might try contacting the Pottawattamie County Courthouse in Council Bluffs, Iowa; they have death records. Or, since you know he died in Pott. Co. in 1923, have you tried getting an obituary look-up? That may tell more about him. If you need help getting an obit, please let me know, and I can obtain one for you if you know the date he died, or close to it. Also, if you're looking for parents, etc., have you tried searching census records to make a link to parents? Or perhaps cemetery records? Please let me know if I can help you in any way. Mona Sarratt Knight
Pottawattamie County also had a court house in Avoca for eastern Pottawattamie County. It closed sometime in the late 1980's or early 1990's. Pottawattamie County Geneolical Society has some of their records depending on what year you are looking for. Their website is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~iapottaw/ Or their e-mail PCGS@qwest.net Steve
Hi, Tried to get a death certificate for a great, great uncle who died in Co. Bluffs in 1923, I wrote to Des Moines, and sent the money, marked the request "genealogy" and they said I wasn't entitled to the certificate. Is there any where else I might find it. Wanted his parents names, and where he was born. Isobel
Per your request, I check the Iowa marriages CD which I have, and I don't find any marriage in Johnson Co. or Pottawattamie Co. for Henry Brodersen or Lizzie Meyer. Is this the same couple that is in the 1910 census in Pocahantas County, Iowa, Swan Lake Township? Broderson, Henry, age 34, married once, 17 yrs, b. Germany, parents b. Sorry for the confusion. The County courthouse is in Council Bluffs. Avoca has a Clerk's office, which I have visited before and obtained info. It would be better to contact the Clerk's office first at Avoca, then you can try the Courthouse at Council Bluffs. Hope that clears it up. Guess I'm not awake this morning! Mona Sarratt Knight
The Pott. Co. courthouse is in Council Bluffs. There is a Clerks Office in Avoca. Mona Sarratt Knight
Pottawattamie County had a courthouse in Avoca for the eastern half of Pottawattamie county. Sometime in the 1980's or 1990's it closed and I really do not know what happened to their records. Pottawattamie County Genealogical Society has some of them.
