The other info will be very helpful in that I now have birth years and some correct first names to work with. The locations are a plus as I never knew my grandfather (Wesley) lived in Texas. I don't know who it was that your father worked for in Nebraska but I do know that they had to be related to me. Thanks again for the information...Alan *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice. Knight: Thanks for all the information on Detlef Dose and his family. i already have all this information. I am looking for the parents of Detlef - i.e. August Fredrich Dose born 1841 in Germany and his wife Christina Sitan Schildhauer Dose born 1838 in Germany. August died between 1903-1905 in Iowa. We know he was still living in 1902 and Christina is snown as a widow in a 1905 Iowa census. Christina died in 1921-1922. She was stilll ifing with her son Detlef. A living descendant of these persons said they were burid in a small cemetery (she attended Christina's funeral along with her Uncle Ted Dose) near where the interstate highway was built and "that the cemetery was just plowed under and the gravestones dumped. All listings for those persons were simply blacked out in the iowa vital statistic records". I have seen Iowa records in our library and it is true that there are many blacked out entries in the records. Christina Dose was my great grandmother. August was he! r second husband. The family immigrated from Germany in 1881. According to the 1900 U.S. census she was the mother of 11 children, however only four - Detlef and his two sisters, and my grandfather, her child by a first marriage were living and accompanied the family to the U.S. I seem to remember seeing in the 1920 census that the family was registererd in the Washington township. A friend helped clarify that what I noted in the census as possibly UC as location of birth is Upper Canada. #1287 Rhody, Araminta, Sarah & Mary Laurence all are Upper Canada. Others are as stated. #1288 Sarah Ashton is Upper Canada, others are as stated. #1289 John, Jane, Martin & John Mills are all Upper Canada. Thanks. Mona Sarratt Knight

The 1850 census (recorded November 1850) for Pottawattamie County, District 21, page 145, lists the following, which might be helpful to your research: Dwelling 1287. Rhody Laurence, age 37, female, b. NC (might say UC, but I'm not sure what that would be). Araminta Laurence, 19, b. NC Sarah Laurence, 16, b. NC Maria Laurence, 14, b. NC Emma Laurence, 12, b. IA Mary Laurence, 9, b. IL Lucretia, age 1, b. PA (it clearly says PA) Dwelling 1288. Thomas Ashton, wagon maker, b. England, age 32 Sarah Ashton, 22, b. NC Joseph, 12, b. England (was Thomas married before, or is this a brother?) Mary, 4, b. IA (was this a child by a first wife of Thomas? John, 6 months, b. IA Dwelling 1289. John Mills, 45, carpenter, b. NC Jane Mills, 42, b. NC Martin Mills, age 20, b. NC Barbara Mills, age 14, b. NC I also find two marriages for Thomas Ashton: Thomas Ashton to Sarah E. Mills, 23 September 1849 Thomas Ashton to Araminta Lawrence, 17 Feb 1851 (I'm assuming Sara died soon after the census was taken in November 1850, and Thomas married 3 months later to Araminta?) I hope this is helpful to you.
