    1. Re: [IAPOTTAW] Fw: [Pottawattamie Queries:] Anyone with Wooton/Wooten connect...
    2. There were many WOOTEN families in Council Bluffs, some spelled WOOTON. One line from Virginia to Missouri, apparently, and others. Jimmie (James S.) Wooten is in the 1930 census, b. Michigan, father b. Michigan, mother b. Arkansas, age 16, "boxer in training" living in the Carl Glass home. Walter Wooten, 41, b. MO, and Carl Wooten, 14, b. MO, are living down the street. Walter is shown as a turntable man on the steam railway. My Dad knew Jimmie and Carl "Cappy" Wooten; they were kids together and grew up "running the same streets" as Dad puts it today. My Dad is 82 and remembers his childhood well. I checked the 1910 census for a James Wooten in Missouri, which you mentioned, but didn't find him. Also, the 1930 census which shows the three Wooten children as living at the Christian Home would indicate they were born in Iowa between 1916 and 1921. I'd think they would be in the 1920 census with their parents, but don't know for sure how long they were residents of the Home. I don't find any James Wooten on the Iowa census in 1920 that fits. Melvin Wooten, age 14 in the 1930 census, would have been born around 1916. Mildred Wooten, age 12 in the 1930 census, would have been born around 1918. Wilma Wooten, age 9 in the 1930 census, would have been born around 1921. If I can help check anything else, please let me know. Mona Sarratt Knight

Ruth and Jimmie had at least one child, and were divorced. She later married a katzenstein, I think his first name was Peter. Peter Katzenstein murdered her and then killed himself, this was in Council Bluffs in 1941. I don't know the name(s) of any children they had. I do have copies of the newspaper accounts of the murder. Since the children you seek were in the 1930 census, the mother of the children were probably Jimmie's previous wife, not Ruth. How interesting. I wish I knew more. I can tell you something that I did forget. The oldest child Melvin was age 14, then Mildred was 12 and the youngest, Wilma was either 7 or 9 in 1930. Through my research I found one family in Atchison Co. MO with a father named Melvin who had a son James that would fit the age bracket. I do not know yet if this is my James or not but it could be since James named a son Melvin. I wish I could find out more about the James Wooton who was a helper at the Midwest cafe in 1929. Keep me in mind should you ever hear anything else that might sound helpful. These children were supposed to have been born in Pot. Co. IA but I had someone look and there were no births for them. I noticed that there was a Melvin Wooton who died in Freemont Co. and is buried there and wonder if this is the Melvin I found in Atchison Co. MO. Its a real mystery. Thanks for getting back to me. *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice. Ger, mother b. PA Koll, Frank, brother, 43, single, b. IN, trackman on railroad Grant, Lewis C., boarder, 57, single. Lillie was the daughter of Louis KOLL and Isabella (CALL) Koll. Louis was born in Germany but immigrated about 1850-58, settled in Tippecanoe Co., Lafayette Twp., Indiana, where he married Isabella. However, Louis died in Council Bluffs while visiting his daughter, Lillie, on about April 4, 1931. There was a newspaper notice or letter that told the heirs to his estate to be in Council Bluffs for a probate hearing on September 1, 1934. I'm searching for more info about Louis KOLL or his daughter, Lillie Mae Koll. She may have married a COOK first and then a GILBERT. Lillie died prior to August 1934 and a Walter O. COOK was administrator of her estate. Any help is warmly appreciated! Mona Sarratt Knight
