Thanks Mona, I didn't even notice it at first either and can see how easily that mistake could have been made, thanks for clearing that up for me, as I have been trying to figure out the line for Nancy A. Headlee who married Alfred Pierce, their daughter Effie married Thomas Nichols. Thanks, Cheri MonaNAriz@aol.com wrote: Actually, now that I read it directly from the book, that's exactly how the bio reads. The first sentence says "JOSEPH HEADLEE, the oldest living settler of Valley Township..." but then in a later paragraph it states "Joshua Headlee, the subject of this sketch..." Obviously a printer or transcription error on behalf of the book publisher. This biography apparently outlines the family for Joseph Headlee, son of Elisha, and Elisha was the son of Joseph Headlee. To help validate whether the bio is for Joseph or Joshua Headlee, I checked the 1880 census for Pott. Co., and it lists JOSEPH HEADLEE (not Joshua) as being married to Esther and his having been born in Pennsylvania about 1826. So, it appears that the publisher made a mistake in calling him Joseph in later paragraphs. I apologize for the confusion. Christian and Andrea Christensen came to America in the 1870's. They had three children, Axel, Wilhelm, and Asta, all born in Atlantic, Cass County, Iowa. The family moved to Hastings, Nebraska in the 1880;s. Andrea died and is buried in Hastings. Christian and the children disappear from the radar screen. The 1920 and 1930 U.S. Census lists an Axel (1920) and Axtel (1930). The census lists two children in 1920 (Henry-age 7 and William-age 4). Occupation lists Axel as a fruit farmer who is married to Ida. The 1929 Council Bluffs City Directory lists an Axel Christensen on Hunter Ave with (Mary). The Axel I am looking for was born in March 1878 in Atlantic. This Axel Christensen is the ONLY one appearing on either the 1920 or 1930 census in the entire U.S. so there is a good chance this is the Axel I am trying to locate. Where would you suggest I go from here in searching Pottawatomie County and Council Bluffs records??? Would appreciate any suggestions. I did it too! This bio is for JOSEPH Headlee, who is a son of ELISHA Headlee, who is a son of JOSHUA Headlee. Hope I didn't confuse anyone too badly. But the original problem is still an error on behalf of the publisher or printer. Mona Sarratt Knight

Regarding the Joseph Headlee bio message, naming the members of the Headlee family, does the records include the name of Mary Headlee, born January 1863 in Des Moines and who died in 1920 while living in or near Missouri Valley, Iowa? She married George Smith of Woodbine, IA. She was accidentally killed when the horse pulling her buggy panicked and ran off. Mary is my wife's 1G Grandmother. Thank you, Norman Jessen
Sorry I forgot to mention where the bio is. The bio can be found on the Pottawattamie county Iowa genweb site. Here is the link, scroll down to Headlee, Joseph and click on his name. http://iagenweb.org/pottawattamie/bios-1891--names.htm Cheri Jakejessen@aol.com wrote: Regarding the Joseph Headlee bio message, naming the members of the Headlee family, does the records include the name of Mary Headlee, born January 1863 in Des Moines and who died in 1920 while living in or near Missouri Valley, Iowa? It is titled and starts out with Joseph Headlee. It also states the Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Headlee had 8 children, George, Joseph, James, Jackson, William, Sarah J., Nancy A. and Dorothea. Is this bio sketch about Joseph Headllee the son of Elisha? But then the second paragraph states: 'Joshua HEADLEE, the subject of this sketch......' Is Joshua a typo and it is actually Joseph? I didn't even notice at first because the names Joshua and Joseph look so much alike. Thanks, Cheri

Brian, It doesn't cost anything to look, which I've done from time to time. It helps to find obituaries. If you don't mind waiting, I plan to go early next month. Mark
Mark, No I dont need ceritified copies.... :) If you can find record and dont mind gettin for me, I will most definately reimburse you! did you need anymore info.? thanks so much for you help and time. I really appreciate it. cheers, brian PS.. Does it cost you to look or only to get copy if record found?
Brain, Pottawattamie County has several early birth records, but it was not mandatory until 1920, I have an Aunt and Uncle who were born in 1915 and 1919 and are not listed in local births. Records from 1920-1940 were sent to Des Moines in Polk County. Do you want certified copies? Due to privacy concerns, you need to request them in person or go to Vital Records Information - Iowa and they can help. If not, let me know. A photocopy of the record, if it available, will cost $5.00. Mark in Council Bluffs
Hey everyone, Do you guys know when Birth Certificates would be on file for people born in Council Bluffs, Iowa.... my great grandfather, Frederick John PARKER was born June 19, 1892 in Council Bluffs, IA..... I would be so greatful and would reimburse anyone that may be in the area or plan to go to the court house there for themselves if they would possible look for this record for me..... If more information is needed, please let me know. ALSO for Pottawattamie County area families: Fred Parker's parents were married in Council Bluffs in 1888, I have a copy of their marriage license.... Would love to know if anyone knows about Samuel R. PARKER was a cabinet maker/Funiture Dealer, he married Annie B. Clark(e) I think she may have had a sister named Kathryn/Kate, and maybe one named Maud..... She gave her father's name on her marriage license as FRED CLARK and mother as ANN SHERWOOD, both of England...... Also, It seems that Samuel R. Parker was married before Annie B. CLark, although the space on the marriage license to how many times previously married was blank, I found out that Fred Parker's sister was actually his half sister, he name was MAY/MAY PARKER.... May Parker's mother was Hattie May/May DANIELS m. S. R./R.S. Parker..... I think she died and thats when S. R. Parker married Annie B. Clark. I wonder if Hattie Mae Daniels Parker died in Council Bluffs or over in Mt. Pleasant area of IA which is where I think she was from.... If she died then it was probably between 1884-1888..... If someone has an IA death index, maybe they can see if there is a HATTIE MAY/MAE DANIELS PARKER on there 1884-1888???? Thanks from your southern cousin... :) Cheers and peace, brian w williams new orleans If anyone needs a New Orleans area look up for OBIT in The Times-Picayune, New Orleans area paper, let me know the death date and will do look up for you!
Dear Listmembers, You might know that the newspaper above was published between 1882 and about 1971 in Breda, IA and later in Wall Lake, IA. Now I'm looking for issues of this newspaper between 1916 and 1971 and clippings of obituaries. I would appreciate your answer if you have those items. The clippings can be send by Email (frisian@netins.net) or snail mail to my address (P. O. Box 269, Titonka, Iowa 50480-0269). In return I would send you a translation of the obituary/obituaries. Thank you very much in advance for your help. Sincerely, Hans-Georg Boyken
