    2. Richard Berkheiser
    3. Hi everyone! Sorry to start another thread of messages so close to a Surname Shout Out but with the lists being down the first part of the year it threw my scheduling off. Hope you don't mind... With this being the Memorial Day Weekend, I thought it would it be interesting to post one ancestor we have in our family trees who served in one of the many wars and battles we fought in US History. Obviously it has to be an ancestor from this county. :) Give a brief biography of that person including the unit and war he or she was in, a POW, injuries, plus the usual genealogical stuff. Thanks in advance and have a safe weekend! Rick B Admin

    3. As Thanksgiving nears, it's a special time to put some thought into things for which we are thankful.   One of the things I appreciate is IAGenWeb and the fact that we offer a web resource tool for family researchers that is high quality and free. In order to make those resources available, we count on volunteers to assist. IAGenWeb has countless volunteers and we are grateful for all they do.   If you are interested in joining our team as a volunteer, there are numerous ways you can contribute.   One way is to volunteer to transcribe records or you could offer to do look ups.  Another way is to become a county coordinator for one of our orphan counties.  Right now, we have 13 counties that are in need of a coordinator.  They are: JONES, JACKSON, SAC, IDA, POWESHIEK, SCOTT, CARROLL, GREENE, LYON, ADAMS, POTTAWATTAMIE, EMMET, and MAHASKA. If you have: (1) computer skills, web page editing (or the desire to learn), (2) a couple of spare hours a week for volunteering, (3) a desire to give people free access to genealogical information, please read our Volunteer Primer at http://iagenweb.org/state/primer.htm We have great county websites waiting for you to adopt as your own: Jackson ** Carroll ** Lee ** Mahaska ** Sac ** Poweshiek ** Ida ** Greene ** Emmet ** Jones ** Lyon ** Pottawattamie ** Scott ** Adams Check out other County Projects at http://iagenweb.org/  for a variety of information provided by other County Coordinators. The counties that are available for new coordinators are Jones, Jackson, Sac, Ida, Poweshiek, Crawford, Scott, Harrison, Lee, Black Hawk, Carroll, Greene, Lyon and Adams. You can visit each of them from http://www.iagenweb.org/state/colist.php . Clicking on the name will take you to the county. Wonder what all is involved? The Volunteer Primer http://www.iagenweb.org/state/primer.htm is a good place to start. Wondering how much is involved? You can spend as much time as you like! It does take a few hours a week at the minimum. Of course, more time is needed when getting started. The Welcome Hostesses, Conni and Cindy, will be glad to answer any questions you have, and help you along the way with learning the ropes. Contact them soon at welcome_to_iagenweb@iagenweb.org .
