Brennan Monday evening Martin Thomas, the second son of Mrs. Alice Currans of this city, died of spinal meningitis. He became ill Sunday shortly before the noon hour. His only brother, Donald, aged 11, is at present very low with the same ailment and his chances for recovery are not at all encouraging. The family are quarantined at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.F. Brennan where they live. Last evening Martin T. was buried in St. John's cemetery. The funeral was held under the state board of health regulations. While many drove to the cemetery they could not visit the home or view the body. The attending nurse, Miss Agnes Kinsella, has charge of Donald. Conditions are, of course, very unpleasant for Mrs. Currans and Mr. and Mrs. Brennan, as their many relatives and friends are powerless to show them the usual attention under such sad circumstances. Dr. Robert Powers, the attending physician, has some hope that Donald may recover, but it is impossible to predict the outcome. Martin T. was nine years old August 21. He attended St. Mary's Academy all last week and was down town Saturday evening. His brother Donald was about as usual. He became ill Sunday afternoon. Martin was a bright, lively, plucky little fellow and his mother and grandparents always found him obedient, kind and truly sympathetic. He was good natured and jolly and willing to do his part in school and when playing with his companions. His death is a very severe blow to his mother and to his grandparents, who were greatly attached to him. They have the sympathy of the people of our county in their trying affliction. It is sincerely hoped that Donald, a very promising boy, may recover his health and strength and survive to be a comfort to his mother and grandparents. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Descendants of Alice Rose Brennan 1 Alice Rose Brennan b: 11/1888 in Emmetsburg, Iowa src: 1900 Census-Palo Alto Co. / . +Thomas Patrick Currans b: Abt. 1885 in Ruthven,Iowa m: Abt. 06/03/1914 in Emmetsburg,Iowa / ........ 2 Donald Currans b: Bet. 1915 - 1916 / ............ +Mildred Hetland / ........ 2 Martin Thomas Currans b: 08/21/1917 in Ruthven, Palo Alto, Iowa src: Palo Alto Co.
