Girres Agnes Marguerite Marti, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Monarch) Marti, was born November 12, 1911, in Gilmore City, Iowa and departed this life at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa on Tuesday, June 28, 1994, at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 16 days. She received her education in the Rodman, Iowa schools, graduating from Rodman High School in 1931. On May 7, 1935, she was united in marriage to Arnold N. Girres in West Bend. Following her marriage, the couple farmed east of Emmetsburg for two years before moving to a farm east of Graettinger, Iowa. Mr. Girres died in 1973. Agnes continued to live on the farm until moving into Graettinger in October of 1991. Agnes was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Rosary Society. She was famous for her hospitality and serving luncheons. Agnes loved music and playing her accordion. Mrs. Girres is survived by three sons, Robert Girres of Lakewood, Colorado; James Girres of Cedar Falls, Iowa; William Girres and his wife, Susan of Graettinger; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Girres of Graettinger; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernie Marti of West Bend, Iowa; John Marti of Algona, Iowa; four sisters, Anna Bonnstetter of Whittemore, Iowa; Susan Kisch, Mary Bonnie Lammers, Metzger, and Bertha Wilson, all of West Bend. She has been preceded in death by her husband, one son, Donald, her parents and one brother, Gene.
