Lived Near Houston, Texas Many Years. Last week we made short mention of the death of Myles J. Ryan, formerly of this place, at his home in Houston, Texas. He was a victim of paralysis. He lived only a few days after he was stricken. His son Bert reached his bedside a short time before he passed away. The remains were brought to Emmetsburg Saturday. Posted on: PaloAlto County Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/PaloAltoObits/620 Surname: Malloy, Conlon ------------------------- Palo Alto Reporter, March 21, 1901 An Aged Citizen Gone On Monday of this week the people of Great Oak township were called upon to mourn the loss of one of their old and respected citizens, Mr. Patrick Malloy, who expired Monday evening at six o'clock. Mr. Malloy has been in feeble health for nearly two years, but about ten days previous to his demise, the infirmities of age began to press heavily upon him and he succumbed to them. Patrick Malloy Sr., was born in Limerick, Ireland, in the year 1813, consequently he had arrived at the advanced age of 88. He came to this country in the year 1840, and settled at Louisville, Ky., where he was afterward married. Shortly after his marriage Mr. Malloy and wife moved to Alamakee county, Iowa, and settled on a farm. Here they continued to reside until 1880, when they came to Palo Alto county and settled on a farm in Great Oak township. Here in June, 1884, Mrs. Malloy died. Mr. Malloy was an honest, upright and conscientious citizen. He was always willing to do acts of kindness and his neighbors held him in high esteem. He was a successful farmer and was in very comfortable circumstances. He leaves two sons Patrick and William Malloy, and two daughters, Mrs. Chris Conlon, and Miss Ellen Malloy, to mourn his loss. The funeral took place Wednesday morning at ten o'clock from Assumption church, and the remains interred in St. John's cemetery.
Posted on: PaloAlto County Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/PaloAltoObits/619 Surname: Kane, McNally, Maher, Murphy, Beaudry, Kerber, Joynt, Doerning ------------------------- Emmetsburg Democrat Emmetsburg, Palo Alto, Iowa March 21, 1935 Mrs. Myles McNally Mrs. Myles McNally, one of the well known aged ladies of Emmetsburg, passed away Thursday of last week. The funeral was held Saturday morning at nine o'clock. Services were conducted in the Assumption church, the pastor, Very Rev. J.T. Finnegan officiating. Interment was in St. John's cemetery. The pall bearers were nephews of the deceased. They were Wm. McNally; Robert McNally, Paul Kerber, Patrick Doerning, Ervin Joynt and Chas. Kane. Marie Kane was born at Roscommon, Ireland, September 8th, 1844. Hence she was 90 years old at the time of her passing. When four years old she came with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kane, to the United States. They located in Oconomowoc, [Wisconsin], January 27, 1868. Mr. and Mrs. McNally moved to Iowa in May 1871 locating on a farm in Emmetsburg township. In 1899 they retired and moved to the city. Mr. and Mrs. McNally celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in January 1918. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McNally, three of whom have preceded their mother in death. Mr. McNally passed away January 16, 1929. Surviving are the four daughters-Mrs. M.M. Maher of Hastings, Nebr., Mrs. Larry Murphy of Bonesteel, S.D., Mrs. Dick McNally of Emmetsburg and Mrs. Art Beaudry of St. Cloud, Minn. -and the son, W.T. McNally of this city. A brother, Martin B. Kane, resides at Ayrshire. The passing of Mrs. McNally is to be regretted by the people of this community. She lived to a ripe old age and she was thoroughly acquainted with the early life and the struggles of the pioneers who developed our county from its raw prairies to its presently highly cultivated state. She prided herself in that she likewise endured many of the hardships of pioneer days and that she also was often called upon to make many sacrifices for the common good. As a mother she was kind and indulgent and she went without many of the necessities in order to build with her husband a comfortable estate that her family might never know the meaning of want. She was a kind and obliging neighbor and her acts of generosity were many. She was a faithful member of her church and she lived up to its Christian teachings. During her declining years she was comforted in the thought that she had lived a good life and that she had merited the love and solicitious care of her fond son and daughters as she became more dependent upon them. They, of course, knew her for her real worth. To them her passing is a severe blow. The Democrat unites with many friends in offering sincere sympathy to the bereaved sons and daughters, the brother, and other relatives. Monday Mr. Jackman was on the street, apparently in his usual health, and late in the afternoon he had expressed himself to a friend as feeling uncommonly well. He went to bed as usual and during the night nothing occurred to indicate that he was unwell, but in the morning, upon being called to breakfast no response was given, and one of the famly went to his room and found him dead. The body was still warm so that life had not been extinct for any great length of time. His death was caused by an apoplextic stroke. Michael Jackman was born in the county of Kilkenny, Ireland, in the year 1826, and at an early age he came to this country and settled in La Salle county, Ill. There he was married to Miss Margaret Lowery, who survives him. To them were born nine children, four sons and five daughters. The sons are M. Jackman and William Jackman of this city, Charles Jackman who resides in Wyoming, and Patrick Jackman of Armstrong. The daughters are Mrs. Conlon and Miss Agnes Jackman, of this city. Mrs. Richard Nolan and Miss Lizzie Jackman, of Fairmont, Minn., and Miss Mary Jackman, of Armstrong, were present at the funeral. Mr. Jackman came to this county in 1856, and was one of the original Irish colony. He settled near where Mr. Doyle now lives, a couple of miles northwest of town, where he resided for some time. He afterwards settled on his present farm, about three miles northeast of Emmetsburg. With the rest of those hardy pioneers, Mr. JAckman tasted of the hardships of pioneer life. He endured the privations of those earlier days with a pertinacity that was bound to succeed, and lived long enough to see the country that he invaded when a wild and weary waste of prairie and grass, blossom into gardens and well tilled fields of grain and corn. He gave the best years of his manhood and added his mite to bring about the splended condition of Palo Alto county at the present day. He was rugged and hardy with ways peculiar to himself, but he was always hospitable, and many a weary traveler in those earlier days found food and shelter under his foof. He shared in the material prosperity of the country, and was, at the time of his leaving acitve farm life, a couple of years ago, one of the largest land owners in the county. The funeral took place from Assumption chruch, on Thursday morning at ten o'clock, and the remains interred in St.John's cemetery. It was largely attended.

Posted on: PaloAlto County Biographies Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ia/PaloAltoBios/12 Surname: Livingston, Wilson, Cuddeback ------------------------- Hi Lyn, Thanks for your response. I have a Jack (could be John) and Etta (could be Julietta) Livingston whose daughter was Blanche, my grandmother. She married a Perry Wilson from Milford, IA. My brother tells me that he had visited the Ruthven Cemetery which must be in Palo Alto county. He saw many graves with the name Livingston and our mother told him that they were family members. It sounds like you may be my connection to the Livingston family. I look forward to learning more about them. Some of my mothers first cousins at her funeral in Spirit Lake had not seen me since I was a baby. They all agreed that I sure looked like the Livingstons. What ever that means. I did not live with my mother after 8 years old but visited her periodically while growing up. She did not talk much about her family. Have you posted your Livingston data on any of the genealogy web sites? Looking forward to hearing from you. Belva
