Hello, I recently learned that my Great Grandparents, Clarence and Daisy Viola (Mendenhall) JONES adopted a son, Floyd, in addition to the two daughters they had. They lived in Page County, Iowa (probably Grant or Lincoln Twp.) at this time. This is what I know. I came across a photo of Floyd with one of the daughters, Nora. Since I know her birthdate, I'm judging that Floyd was born approximately 1894-1897. I don't know how old he was when he came to live with them. He does not appear on the 1900 census in their family, but I haven't yet been able to order in the 1910 census to check it over. He apparently had some problems. He took someone's bicycle, and Clarence and Daisy sent him to live with the grandparents, Henry T. & Elizabeth Jones (Lincoln Twp.) OR Peter Bray & Emily Mendenhall (College Springs)also in Page County, Iowa. He ran away from their home and I don't know if they ever saw him again. They did hear from him again by letter. In an old letter written in 191! 6, Daisy's mother states, "I am so glad you herd from Floyed. I think he is just where he ought to be if he is a soldier he will have to go pretty straight and cant get in to mischief." In another old letter, the other sister, Mildred, asked a cousin if he had seen Floyd anywhere in France. He said no. I take it Floyd served in the military and went to World War I. I am aware that the adoption records are sealed in Iowa, and someone from the list told me about getting a private investigator. I guess maybe I should start there since I don't know if he was legally adopted for sure, but can't afford the fee at this time. Does anyone have any ideas on proceeding on this search? Is there someone out there familiar with this individual that knows of him or what happened to him? It always seems like such a long shot, but I have to try. I've read so many wonderful success stories. Thanks everyone. You are all so helpful. Kristy
